The wooden bowls are perfect, I am making an embroidered lid with a Yorkshire button to sit on top of the bowl. It's a perfect size! For the spools, I will embroider a band that will wrap around the spool and will attach the band with a looped button. The hole of the spool is perfect to place a pair of small embroidery scissors.
