I was looking for a mattress topper to soften our rather firm bed but did not want memory foam as it can be too hot. I liked the idea of wool being warm in winter and cool in summer but the topper was a bit too expensive an experiment, in case we didn't like it. So I bought the mattress protector instead. Delivery was prompt and it is nicely packaged in a zipped canvas bag. We have used it for a couple of weeks now. It has a very nice quality cotton cover, the wool is quite thick, and the elasticated sides fitted our bed perfectly. It pads the mattress quite well but doesn't really soften it as such. I think the topper would have. We noticed the first night that we felt much warmer (my feet were warm for a change!) but not sweaty. It is now towards the end of September and we still just have our lightweight summer quilt and in spite of the nights getting quite cold we have been warm. I have given 4 out of 5 because I do not know whether it might be too hot in warm weather and also I have not washed it yet (I bought the wool wash for when I do). It is quite heavy (king size) but I think it will go in our washing machine. Unfortunately it cannot be tumble dried. I will test it for longer before I order any other items but overall I would recommend this product.
