This is a review of the OHSA & Regulations:
- Stop/slow paddle still specifies high intensity on the red, STOP side. (MTO OTM Book 7 specifies high-reflectivity micro-prismatic fluorescent sheeting on both sides of paddle)
- Mentions only truck-mounted attenuators, not trailer-mounted. (MTO OTM Book 7 allows trailer-mounted attenuators, which I think is misguided).
- Has no specs on the TMA, just says they are required on crash trucks. No reference to TMA 100 being required after 2006;
- Blocker trucks not permitted for use on freeways (good, and consistent with OTM Book 7).
- Still permits either cuffs/bands around wrists and ankles, or side-visibility enhancing stripes, which are not wrap-around. (In my view, only wrap-around cuffs/bands should be permitted; side stripes are not as effective or safe)
- Specifies minimum weight of blocker or crash trucks as 6800 kg, but specifies no maximum. (It’s MTO that specifies max 12,000 kg).
- Since MLITSD allows CSA standards for worker garments, it would be helpful if the regulation reflected that.
