I tried to purchase a Lego set reduced from £79.99 to £54.99.
However, the nearest branch to me with stock was over 100 miles away and the terrible Argos online/ home delivery conundrum was in force again as I couldn't actually order the item for home delivery.
I checked UK branches showing stock daily for a week with no success. On Saturday a branch local to me suddenly showed the item in stock but also on the Saturday Argos increased the price back to £79.99 despite the fact that the item is now discontinued meaning Argos cannot replenish their stock and with only 14-17 branches in the UK showing stock, they have put the price back to full price for just a handful of sets.
I emailed Argos customer services three times without any acknowledgment at all. I then phoned them to see if they would honour the price that was available less than 12 hours earlier on the basis that I couldn't order or reserve the item as it wasn't in stock and I couldn't order home delivery because the online system didn't offer it as an option.
Explaining the situation to the customer services representative merely resulted in a "computer says no" reply.
Given the level of customer service offered by Argos major retail competitors I was hoping that they would be able to show some level of discretion with matters this. Alas no. Oh well it'll be John Lewis every time from now on.
