UNBELIEVABLE Customer Service. Don’t believe everything (anything) you are told!!
Our order for two sofas appeared to progress well to start with. We were very pleased to receive an email advising that our delivery date (specified at the time of order) had been brought forward and sure enough the Argos delivery lorry turned up at the agreed time and date.
Unfortunately it then all started to go wrong!! The driver decided he could not get to our property due to access restrictions. We then had to watch helplessly as our sofas disappeared into the distance. However we were promised re-delivery on a smaller vehicle and that’s when our frustrations began………
On face value the (many) Customer Service agents we spoke to appeared to be very helpful and apologetic BUT we soon came to realise that we were being fobbed off and blatantly lied to, with false promises of new delivery dates which failed to materialise.
We were promised re-delivery on no less than FIVE occasions, with assurances on the actual expected day of delivery that our sofas were ‘definitely on a van on their way to you’ but nothing turned up. A total waste of our time waiting in at home for deliveries that in reality were NEVER going to happen! One sofa was eventually delivered out of the blue (with no prior warning) but the promised deliveries of our second sofa failed to materialise.
Following a formal complaint to David Robinson (Chief Operating Officer) we were eventually told (by one of his assistants) that the sofas were actually out of stock and could not be delivered for another FOUR weeks!!
Having lost total confidence in Argos we decided to cancel our order (and return the one sofa that had been delivered). We were able to buy the same sofas from an alternative supplier at a cheaper price, with immediate delivery. In due course we received a full refund, plus a gift voucher by way of compensation.
I can accept that sometimes there can be problems with delivery lead times etc but I cannot accept the blatant lies and deception provided so effectively by Argos customer service staff – absolutely disgraceful!!
The sorry saga ended in some amusement. Some three weeks AFTER our order had been cancelled we received a surprise phone call, from an Argos Delivery driver, advising that he was approx. 15 minutes away with a delivery of TWO sofas for us………. Needless to say we told him to go away.
