Caveat emptor! The Catawiki site is a no frills auction site but I’ve been caught out several times and I’m starting to spot flaws or rather RISKS for the buyer.
1. odd practices of bids ramping up and won lots re-listing which makes me question whether a seller was bidding against themselves to start a bidding war.
2. I’ve had artwork listed as “rare” but a quick Google search reveals multiple posts of the same “pro” seller listing the same rare artwork more than 10 times over a 12 month period using exact same stock images.
3. Astronomical prices for P&P with no apparent checks.
4. Inability to ask Seller questions about the item until AFTER winning a Lot and then often get no reply from seller.
Just some concerns, maybe these will improve over time as TRUST in the platform is essential to foster a good transaction and experience.
