I have been using Catawiki for some time, and unfortunately, I must express my growing disappointment with the inconsistent and often unprofessional behavior of certain so-called "experts" on the platform.
It is deeply frustrating to see that low-quality reproductions and fakes are regularly approved and sold without issue, while rare, authentic, and valuable collector's items are repeatedly rejected without clear justification. I personally experienced a situation where one of my items was approved by an expert and sold successfully at a good price. Just two weeks later, I submitted an identical item from the same batch — and it was rejected by another expert, Matteo Fornetti, stating that the item "does not meet expectations."
In my opinion, Mr. Fornetti demonstrated a complete lack of knowledge and understanding of the category in question. The inconsistency between experts undermines trust in the platform and creates confusion and frustration for sellers who work hard to present genuine and unique pieces.
Catawiki must seriously reconsider the qualifications of some of their so-called "experts" and improve internal standards to ensure fairness and professionalism. Otherwise, it risks losing the trust of serious collectors and sellers alike.
