I recently purchased a $29 tennis racket from Dick's Sporting Goods in Naperville and attempted to return it unused within seven days. The return process was unnecessarily complicated and left me feeling disrespected as a customer.
Upon presenting the racket for return:
1. The associate inspected it thoroughly
2. A second associate was called to examine it
3. The manager was then asked to inspect the racket
After their lengthy inspection, I was told the racket had been used, which was not true. When I expressed my frustration, pointing out that three staff members had scrutinized a $29 item.
I believe this level of suspicion over an inexpensive item is excessive and shows a lack of trust in customers. Even if they genuinely believed the racket was used, the confrontational approach and refusal to accept the return for such a low-cost item seems unreasonable and not worth potentially losing a customer over.
This experience has significantly damaged my trust in Dick's Sporting Goods' customer service.
