I didn't understand what made good or bad furniture, and used to think the obsession with real or not real wood was overblown. But then our much newer bed from Bed, Bath, and Beyond broke within a couple years, while the spare IKEA bed from 14 years ago is still standing. I was tempted to get from Amazon, being able to look at reviews, and because of how quick it would come. But, I wanted a good proper bed, all wood, solid, and came across Get Laid Beds. Cheeky name aside, the reviews seemed good, and the description of how the beds are made seemed like what I was looking for. It took about 3 weeks to get here, but it was worth it.
Every piece was solid wood, save for two solid metal braces for the headboard. There were a few dings, but nothing significant. Putting the bed together wasn't as user friendly as say IKEA. You do have to do a bit of measuring for the slats for example. But given the Japanese inspired joinery, most pieces lined up nicely on at least one dimension.
If you have a little bit of experience with tools, you can put this bed together. Even if you don't, this bed is worth hiring someone from TaskRabbit or Handy to help you out.
