When we moved our still growing kids to twin XL mattresses, we were surprised how difficult it was to find attractive bed frames with a headboard. None of the traditional American stores (Pottery Barn, West Elm, Macy's, Ikea, I'm missing 5 others) from which we had typically bought had options. We also searched Ebay and Etsy and mattress manufacturers. There seemed to be 3 reasonable options: simple metal frame from Amazon (no headboard), very expensive ($2K/each) but beautifully made options, or less-expensive-but-still-expensive and beautifully made-but-hadn't-heard-of-them-before Get Laid Beds. The video for the very expensive bed was really compelling and I still think of it sometimes because it promised easy pop-in here, roll out there ease. However, for just over the price of one of their beds, we got 2 Get Laid Beds, 4 drawers & 2 floating shelves (all Get Laid Bed products). It wasn't clear to us what delivery would be like because it was written for UK delivery but we eventually received 9 out of 12 boxes mostly on the delivery day but all within 5 days of the stated delivery day. The build required a power screwdriver/drill (not the battery kind, the plug-in one). It would have been nearly impossible without it. There are directions but it's not like Ikea "step 1, step 2, etc" you need an idea of what you are doing to make this a positive experience. But each bed took under an hour to construct and they are beautiful and solid. The kids have slept on them for several days now and are comfortable with just the mattress on top of the frame itself. Note: there is no ridge, actually, between the slats and the edge of the frame - i.e. a little rim would be welcome - so the mattress does slide a bit. It's fine because one side is against a wall and another has the headboard... If you were just going to float a bed, it might need some thinking. But the overall look and the design is lovely. Really really classic and pretty. Observations: -- I thought it strange to pay extra for the felt padding under the legs. We did it but seems like it should just be part of the buy. -- Each under-the-bed drawer/box comes in its own shipping box, ready to construct; a bit of a hassle but, again with tools, do-able in under an hour. We had a problem with one of the drawer boards and customer service has been responsive. -- We have contacted customer service many times via email and they are very fast to respond and are helpful to boot - welcome surprise! We reached out mostly because we didn't receive all the boxes initially (hard to track via DHL because it's one shipment despite being 12 boxes) and we needed a replacement board for one of the drawers. -- the floating shelves/"side tables" are too large to use with a twin bed when each bed has its length against a wall so that the open space from the door through the room is between the beds. In our case, these tables are a shin-killer. They are quite square, heavy and durable. You will break before they break. It would work if the beds jutted out into the room (but our room is too small). That said, they do also work on the headboard to extend past the bed for glasses, water, book.... --these are absolutely built to last. Thank you.
