Got a phone call out of the blue saying my guarantee for my washing machine was expiring, and would need to be renewed, and a new mandate direct debit would need to be set up, thought this was strange as it usually roles on unless I say stop. So talking about this great deal I was being offered, then he asked for my bank sort code, then he wanted my bank account details, this is when I said but you must have this information from the other thing I have insured with you, he tried every way he could to get that account number. I held out saying I would never hand over details like this on the phone, he sent me emails while we were talking to try and convince me. In the end I still said no, thank goodness I did because it had basically been a cold call on the off chance I would take the deal he was offering, and not once did he say you don't have other things insured with us. When I checked it was a completely different company I am insured with. Thank goodness I had the sense to hold off giving him that bank account number, and i also have all the insurance company names etc for all my different insurances now remembered so i dont just believe its the one i am with when they call. So beware of them making calls like this to you it could really cost or save you loads.
