I haven't done the remote programming but I ensure you'll not encounter obstructions like cables, soft mats, hanging cloths etc. I love your self-emptying function! I haven't use the app & remote operation. But all good with its cleaning function! I take it upstairs to vacuum clean my bedroom, leave the station downstairs then press 'play' to command it to vacuum clean. It does the cleaning job then stops when it's finish. That's when I put it back near it's station (downstairs), then press the 'home' function for it to go back to it's station & proceed with the emptying of the collected dust. Highly recommend!
