I have been on sick leave for stress and anxiety for over a year. As a benefit, my employer provides an income protection policy to employees which would supposedly pay about 75% of my salary after being on sick leave for 6 months. I unfortunately discovered that the insurer, Zurich Insurance, was unwilling to make such payments for various absurd reasons. They first claimed that I was on sick leave because my relationshiip with my employer had deteriorated and not because I was ill, even after my psychiatrist and GP had provided evidence of my condition. I appealed their decision and filed a complaint for the slow pace at which the claim was processed. This unfortunately did not make a difference as Zurich has cotinued to drag their feet and continue to ask for more and more information. It has been over 6 months since the claim was opened and I still have not been able to get a benefit which was supposed to alleviate the financial burden during my recovery. This situation made such benefit useless. I have been placed in a very difficult situation where on top of trying to recover from my mental health issues, I also have to worry about money.
