“I was a mentee for the 10-week mentoring scheme with Alignthebar. My interactions with Nieve have always been pleasant and motivating. She has taken the time to plan detailed sessions and speak with me about personal and professional development. As part of a 1-1 session with her, we looked at the future and the progress steps needed to be taken by myself. Neive is genuine and authentic, offering advice for improvement whilst highlighting your successes of you. I am thankful for her to be setting up this mentoring scheme because it has made me more confident. The first thing you get on this scheme is a mentor. My mentor was extremely helpful, we looked at my CV, applications and how to gain further experience as a law student. We built a trusted relationship, kept in contact frequently and we will be meeting each other in the new year, despite the scheme now finishing. I attended all the sessions hosted by Alignthebar and each was greatly informative and helpful. Some of the sessions included mental health, studying for the bar exam, and county court advocate training. The one I found the most influential was studying for the bar exam, this is because it is the next step on my academic journey. The speaker had given great advice, and tips and highlighted personal experiences for the course she is currently sitting. We also spoke about work experiences that set you apart from other candidates and how to maximise the most out of each experience. I applied for the County Court Advocacy Training due to an email sent out by Alignthebar. I would not have known about this opportunity if it was not for Alignthebar sending out work experiences in its emails. (TOP TIP: Check your emails for current and future experiences!) Nieve had spent some time the day before the assessment going through scenarios and how to answer questions that could be asked by the judge. We also had access to materials on the website specifically covering this topic. It was interesting to hear from Nieve about her experience because she had gone through the course. Successfully, I passed the course after an intense two weeks of training! I have found mentoring an exceptional opportunity to work with those in the legal industry and gain 1-1 time with the mentor. It has led me to get work experience, as well as refine my applications to gain further work experience. If you have the chance to be mentored under this scheme you will benefit from each week!”

The program helped me improve my legal writing skills, and increased my engagement with the legal profession through mini-pupillage applications, law essays, webinars, and advocacy clubs. The members' profile was very easy to follow and updated with new content every month to develop stronger and more comprehensive experiences. Not to mention, Barrister Neive provided unfathomable support and individual care and counseling to ensure progression in my career as a future barrister.”

“I absolutely love the services that Alignthebar provide. Because of them I got the opportunity to apply for a County Court Advocate position. I would not have come across this opportunity if it wasn't for Alignthebar. They also helped me with my BTC application. The tutoring is amazing. I recommend everyone to subscribe.”
