I emailed Boots customer service (a complete rigmarole in itself) but their response was a couldn't-care-less attitude, and even though the free gift had clearly been used they would not exchange it because it was a free gift.

I am using Clairol Studio Hair Colour, and now Boots stopped having this brand on its stores. How am I supposed to colour my hair now? You cannot just change brands, because the colours are different. Clairol has other brands, but Clairol Studio is different. And I don't shop online, so I am not getting this online!!! No way, shopping online is dangerous and more expensive. If you stop stocking a product in you shop, you will have to provide an alternative for a similar product, and its not happeing, the other.products are different. How are you supposed to maintain your customers if you keep changing the products? What a rubbish service

This is not just poor customer service, it is fundamentally unfair treatment of a paying customer.

Today, nearly 2 weeks after placing order, contacted customer service who informed me it may have gone to wrong store, but didn't know which one, so obviously tracking within Boots doesn't work efficiently.

Apalking customer service, no delivery received after stating it would be delivered 5 days ago, they can’t even tell me where my order is.

I phoned the customer service department to ask why but they had no idea for the reason, only suggesting that I re-enter my address details and that there must be a glitch on your system; on the second occasion I was told the reason might be that I was spending (trying to!) more than usual and that I would now be locked out of my account for 72 hours and to try again then.

1/5 — Missing Items & No Resolution My order 779944541 arrived missing items worth £153.66, and Boots have refused to refund me. They could not provide any photographic proof of delivery but still rejected my claim. I’ve been left out of pocket with no support from customer service. Very disappointed.

In terms of product knowledge and customer service, Boots in Paddington Station are useless! I needed an emergency supply of hearing aid batteries, but, when I showed the assistant the existing battery and its packaging, I was told that they didn't know if their own-brand batteies were compatible, and that I should look online, where it would also be cheaper...!
