“We were very satisfied with this class. We entered this class with the goal of trying to calm down an anxious dog. We were taught techniques and strategies that helped us work with our dog and have seen marked improvements in his behavior. We were also given skills to continue this training in the future. The instructor is very knowledgeable and approachable. She is also an excellent communicator. It was also helpful to take this class with a small group of other people. We definitely learned from the situations that our classmates had. I would strongly recommend this class. We are considering additional classes.”

“We loved the Feisty Fido course and our trainer, Lauren! We have used other trainers before and felt like not only were we not making progress with our dog but that we were actually making things worse at times. The Feisty Fido course was an eye opening experience that helped us to actually start understanding the root of our dog’s challenges. With the tools we learned in Feisty Fido, we are finally seeing progress!”

“We have now completed the puppy class, individual behavioral sessions and the feisty Fido class with CCA. My puppy is extremely fearful and reactive and without CCAs help we wouldn’t be where we are today. Caroline, Ingrid, and Lauren have been so amazing. They are extremely thoughtful, listened to our issues, and recommended behavioral training for him on noise sensitivity, leash reactivity and gave me knowledge to understand his needs and make sure we are enriching his life. They also recommended to go to the vet to suggest anxiety medications, and gave me a vet letter. With the medication and the training sessions we have done with him, he’s come leaps and bounds from where we were 6+ months ago. He’s getting more confident, less reactive, and our stress levels have come down significantly. I can’t wait to see his continued progress with all the tips, training activities and enrichment activities CCA have given to us. They are the best!”

“Calm Canine has been one of the best trainers we've worked with so far (and we've tried several at this point!). Maddie immediately could see the issues in previous methods for certain behaviors and helped us correct them to help set our pup up for optimal success. She is extremely thorough and attentive to the dog's body language and behavior. The entire CCA team has also been so helpful and flexible. When I mentioned that we really needed a trainer asap, they helped fit us into the existing schedule even though it was difficult. I appreciate them so much!”

“The training is so thorough and helpful. Lauren has already helped my reactive, deaf dog become so much calmer. I'm also obsessed with their social media content, where I can watch examples of other dogs practicing the lessons.”

“We recently did an online session with Calm Canine Academy and we learned so many helpful things! I'm really looking forward to putting all of it into practice. One of the most useful tips was in regards to the pups jumping on us and getting in our way, when we are coming home and trying to get through the front door. The technique that they suggested is so simple and practical! Sure wish that I would have learned it years ago.”

“I cannot express how grateful I am to Lauren Tapp of CCA! Over the last couple of months, she has helped my Maltese, Tessa, with separation anxiety. Through well-planned sessions, Lauren has taught me how to successfully work with my puppy. In our eight weeks, she has been readily available to help answer my questions and guide me in Tessa's training. She's been an awesome teacher and cheerleader and has been at my side with helpful suggestions when I've needed her most. It will be a few months yet before I can leave Tessa for several hours (I can now leave for an hour!--major progress!), but I have faith in the process and absolutely know it will happen. Thank you, Lauren, for everything.--Without you, Tessa and I wouldn't have such a bright future!”

“Calm Canine Academy is IT! I could not be more grateful of Karishma's guidance for handling my rambunctious one year old Brussels Griffon. We opted to do a private and the Calm Canine master class - both were fantastic. We are about 6 weeks since graduation and my dog has done a 180! He's now perfectly calm, chill, and so well behaved. We've had to continuously work with him - it's not a magic pill, you will need to put in honest work with your pooch - but the training will stay with you both way after you stop the weekly zoom meet ups. The training is so intuitive and even if you're already super close with your dog, this class will make you fall in love with him even more. I cannot speak more highly of Karishma either. She is so wonderful. She is beyond knowledgeable about proper, ethical training for dogs and she is so warm and passionate about helping you. She is one of few dog trainers I've come across in NYC who are not pretentious and judgmental. She makes working with your dog fun! Every class and session will improve your dog's behavior. So worth the money. I'm so grateful for CCA! Would recommend them to ANYONE and EVERYONE!”

“We have completed (well nearly) the Separation Skills group course with CCA, led by Karishma. Its been very good and I have learned a lot that is really helping to work towards alone time for my boy. SA won't be cured during the course but we have gone from a few minutes to over 30 without distress. There is a long way to go but I will continue to work with CCA and definitely recommend them to others. I will be signing up for other courses as well as their way of working with dogs Is fantastic and I know I will be a better dog mum as a result of working with them.”

“If I could give 10 stars I would! Long story short - If your sweet fur baby is struggling from any sort of aggressive reactivity due to fear and anxiety (or honestly any sort of behavioral issue / training need at all) than look no further than Calm Canine Academy. There are not enough good things I can say about Karishma, Nicole, Gem, and the entire CCA team. You will not find a more dedicated, knowledgeable, patient, trustworthy, humane, educated, or genuinely warm team who will be able to teach you practical and applicable training (backed by science) leading to truly long-term change which will bring both you and your dog peace from whatever troubles them. For those who are interested in the long story long (because I wish I had read reviews like this when looking for the right trainer) …... when adopted the love of our life - Fozzie - when he was 1 year old from the NYC ASPCA. We quicky realized that his ASPCA bio recapping his quirk, fears, and likes was very different from his reality. While an incredibly loving, goofy, gentle, loyal, and curious little pup at his core (and around hose in his safe circle), Fozzie had a troubled side inclusive of aggressive reactivity related to fear, anxiety, and trauma in his life before he joined our family. These truths would rear there ugly heads inconsistently from time to time, with Fozzie lunging at kids who ran past him on the busy side walks of NYC, nipping at the ankles of kids and adults who he wasn’t sure of, barking uncontrollably when anyone walked by our apt door (to get to their own apartment), and ultimately biting a stranger on the street when his dog walker dropped his leash during one of his fight-or-flight episodes induced by one of his triggers. During this bumpy journey we tried all sorts of different training techniques on our own and with professionals, however none of them seemed to work and most of them seemed to involve “alpha mentality” training which wasn’t something we were interested in applying. It wasn’t until the worst day of our lives when he bit a stranger (luckily they were okay and no stiches were needed) that we decided it was time for meaningful change. Karama was on our side when we found Calm Canine Academy as hours upon hours of digging for organizations, reading reviews, and having informational calls. We have thanked my lucky stars since then. CCA truly understands “dogs” and how they tick, they use positive reinforcement methods (vs alpha), they take the time to explain what they are doing, why and now it will impact change, all while genuinely getting to know you, your dog, and working with you to create an action plan that is truly achievable and can work with any schedule. Like any good and meaningful change, results from training will take time, patience, and practice on your end, but if you are consistent and dedicated the CAA team will get you and your dog to a place of peace and happiness that you never thought possible. Simply put, they have changed Fozzie’s life and ours. I cannot thank Karishma, Gem, or Nicole (fozzie’s in-person trainer and best friend) enough. Through our work with them they have given us the tools needed to communicate and set boundaries with Fozzie so that he feels safe and secure, resulting in less and less reactivity and an environment that allows him to make good choices and give us a better chance of offering him peace and happiness. Through our work with them, they have given us our lives back, reduced the stress we were feeling, and Fozzie was feeling, and given us hope of being able to provide Fozzie with a happy, fear-free life, where he can safely be around people and kids, and possibly even a big brother to a human baby as well – all things we thought would not be possible.”

“We did a virtual training session with Ingrid over Zoom. We had such a great time and I learned so many new things about some of my pups behaviors. Ingrid had answers to all of my questions - and trust me, I had TONS of questions. We've been struggling with our pup's jumping on people to greet them, and Ingrid gave us a few different training techniques to try out. She also recommended some great nourishment activities to do throughout the day. We have been integrating what we've learned and it's been going great! Meal times are happier, greetings are calmer, and all around we have one happy pup! SO happy with our training session and the very thorough report that followed with all the details we discussed. It's nice to have all the information handy for future reference!”

“The folks at Calm Canine Academy approach dog training as teaching with compassion, positive reinforcement, and science-based knowledge. I have learned so much from them about how to communicate with my dog, Alma, and how to listen to her and what she is trying to tell me so that I can better meet her needs. Through their Calm Canine Masterclass, I gained invaluable skills to help Alma with reactivity (she's a nervous nelly) and relaxation, some fear-based reactions, and even everyday things every guardian needs to know, like loose leash walking, leave it, recall, etc. What I've learned from CCA and their ongoing support has made me a more understanding, educated, and empathic friend and guardian for my dog. In turn, she's a happier and better dog for me, too! Needless to say, they are the best, hands down.”

“The guidance and training that we received from Lauren were life-changing! Before we started, our 9 month old golden retriever pup was such a headache and didn't know that many of her behavioral issues were due to anxiety. Thankfully Lauren provided easy-to-follow training routines which produced very positive results. We couldn't have been more grateful for her patience and knowledge. Furthermore, she was easily accessible through our communication channels, which made the entire process even more manageable.”
