“I contacted Clever Closet to book additional under-stair storage, as they had previously completed a similar job for us a couple of years ago. I had since gained some extra space under the stairs and wanted the rest of the area fitted in the same style.
During my initial call, I spoke with a member of staff and sent photos of the existing work, along with the space I wanted completed. She confirmed that the work was possible and there would be no issues in continuing the installation. Despite the lead time being approximately eight weeks—longer than I had hoped, given that our kitchen renovation was due to begin around the same time—I agreed, as I specifically wanted the work done by the same company for consistency.
As per their process, I paid a £150 deposit over the phone to secure a measurement appointment. The engineer attended as scheduled, took all necessary measurements, and I explained exactly what I wanted. He assured me there would be no problems in completing the job.
After that, I did not receive any follow-up communication from Clever Closet, so I contacted them myself to confirm whether the measurements had been received and the project was moving forward. They apologised for the lack of communication and confirmed they had everything they needed.
As the kitchen project date was approaching, I contacted them again to ask if there was any chance of an earlier installation in case of cancellations. They eventually gave me a date, which I accepted. However, the day before installation, I received a call stating that the installer had not been able to organise all the materials in time, and the appointment would need to be rescheduled. This was frustrating, especially as I had already taken time off work for the installation.
Despite the inconvenience, I accepted the next available date. Shockingly, the day before the new scheduled installation, I received yet another call saying that the installer had now deemed the job unfeasible. This last-minute cancellation occurred just one day before our kitchen works were due to begin, leaving us completely stranded and highly inconvenienced.
The overall experience has been extremely disappointing—marked by poor communication, repeated last-minute cancellations, and a lack of reliability. I would not recommend Clever Closet based on this experience. Fortunately, our kitchen fitter was able to step in at the last minute to help resolve the situation.”
“I booked under stairs closet with these guys and paid a deposit, following which they sent me 4 emails on different occasions asking for measurements and I provided them all to the exact mm! On the day of installation, their fitter said he can't do the work as the stairs are apparently too shallow and he doesn't have the kit! A week later I got an email from their sales agent saying they can't fit as they need a parking space that is visible from the point of installation.... really?! And this reason by the way was absolutely different from what the fitter told me, although the sales agent did not mention anything about the stair size at all... (may be because I sent all the dimensions 4 times she asked for?!!) I kept my patience, offered my own parking space to them and asked for a new installation date.... and this time the lamest response (actually a blatant lie!!) shocked me. The guy this time came with a third excuse saying that our installation needs 2 fitters and due to covid restrictions, they aren't able to send 2 fitters for the fitting and once the restrictions are lifted they will get back to my AT THE NEW AGREED PRICE.... And please note this lame response was sent to me on 22nd July, 3 days after all the UK restrictions were lifted. They kept my deposit for 3 months, kept me waiting and ultimately I had the job done by a local carpenter!”
