I bought a hybrid bike online from Evans Cycles in May, and will never use them again. The bike had clearly never been overchecked before shipping. The Gear Cable was frayed, and Gears were making a grinding noise. The rear Hyraulic Brake is a death trap. Been told by local bike mechanic that the Brakes had air in them, and needed bleeding. I had only rode it once. When I contacted them, I was told to bring the bike to them, at my own expense, even though they had charged me £15 for delivery. All in all, shocking Customer Service.

I gave an honest review on evans site but they wouldn't publish it! This company are disgraceful and dishonest for that. You can't just have reviews to suit you.

Where to start. I ordered two mountain bikes which came to a total if £9010. Bikes were both Delivered absolutely battered. Both bikes had scratches over it, missing bolts and a bent frame. Tried sending the bike back multiple times and the delivery driver never turned up. Third time lucky and the bike was picked up and was told it can take up to two weeks for them to receive broke bike. It’s now been months and I still don’t have a new working bike and they still have my money

Dear Evans, I've had an extremely poor experience with Evans recently, peaking with the delivery of my last order. I ordered the Elite Fly bottles from Evans rather than your competition (who would have delivered not for £5.99 but for free, and FAR faster than you) because, according to the photo descriptions on your site, you were offering the white bottles with black and silver details and black and silver lids. Those bottles match my bike. What you shipped to me was white bottles with silver and big, bright red details and white lids. Those bottles do not match my bike. See attached screenshot of your product page and photo of what you shipped to me. Making this worse is the fact that you have recently started charging £5.99 to collect Web orders from your stores. When ordering from your site I would usually collect from your Maidstone store for free, but as you're now charging the same price to collect as you are to ship, there's no advantage to me to click and collect. Note than none - none - of your competition charges this much, or takes a week to ship their products. They also tend to ship products that are accurate to their descriptions. Making it worse again is that I used a Gift Card, given to me for my birthday, to purchase these items. Not only did your website fail to accept my gift card for 2 weeks because you were updating your system (you've already got the £50, so wheres the hurry in allowing me to redeem the products, eh?), but out of the £50 gifted to me I must subtract £5.99 for the shipping. You also charged £5.99 to ship the gift card to the person who gifted it to me. Thats £11.98 you have taken for "shipping" this order, and that is quite frankly disgusting. And 3 of the 5 items I ordered are not as described! I honestly feel as if Evans have made changes recently in order to distance themselves from their competition (Wiggle etc.), but you've gone in the wrong direction - making yourselves more expensive and making the customer experience worse. There is now absolutely no advantage to me, or anyone else with the internet or a copy of the Yellow Pages, to use Evans over anyone else, and I fail to see how the decision makers at Evans could justify making these changes unless their goal is drive the company into the ground and bury it under a mound of horrendous reviews. Further to that, your prices aren't remotely competitive before you pile on the bad customer experience and exorbitant shipping. And now you've taken away your Price Match service, ensuring that if someone is buying from you they will be paying more than they need to! I assume you're hoping to prey on newcomers to cycling who don't know any better than to go to the website of their local bike shop without shopping around, or ignorant family members of established cyclists who might want to purchase their loved one a gift card. You surely can't be hoping to attract to your website customers who've been cycling for more than 3 months as they have no reason to shop with you over anyone else. As to the bottles, I would return them but as they're £5.99 each it would cost me more money, time, and effort than it would be worth, even if you were to refund the cost of postage both ways. I will simply have to accept this as a mistake on your part and a lesson on mine. I have spent a significant amount of money with Evans over the past few years on a bike, clothing, accessories, backpacks, bottles, tools, workshop consumables, and spart parts - I won't be spending any more without some serious changes being made to your pricing, services, and a general respect for the fact that your customers have a choice as to where they shop (unless of course they're in possession of an Evans gift card - in that case they're well and truly stuck with you). Regards, An ex-Evans Cycles Customer

Shocking - Putting Wealth and Sales Before Safety Shocking ! Ordered a bike on 24th April. It arrived on 14th May. When I opened the un damaged box and began to take off the inner packaging I discovered the rubber on the handle bars was badly damaged and was crumbling away. Reported it on line to Evans customer service as all phone lines due to Covid-19 we’re closed and as at 13th June still no response. I understand this could be Covid-19 related. However, still rode the bike as it was just the rubber grip damaged - wore gloves. But after 3 weeks of not all that much use, the whole entire crank and pedal fell off at a very busy roundabout. The pedal went flying into the road into the middle of the roundabout and numerous cars drove over it before I could safely retrieve it. I was ok, but that could have been so much worse !! It’s frightened me. Luckily I could coast onto a pavement/gap off the roundabout and wasn’t wearing Cycle road shoes !! Very angry, I took the bike down to the shop closest to me (27 miles away). Expressed my displeasure and was told by the mechanic there that the crank hadn’t been torqued. Despite having an Evans Cycles check list in my delivery pack which was clearly ticked and signed that the torque had been checked and set correctly 4 weeks prior. Evans, Sutton Coldfield took pictures and reported to their HO. But heard nothing from them as at 13th June. Sutton Coldfield repaired the bike and just put the old pedal back on. Yes, the damaged scratched run over pedal crank back on my bike. Didn’t even repair the rubber on the handles bars until I asked them to return the bike and repair those too ! So now I have mis- matching rubber handle grips and a scratched damaged pedal crank on a 4 week old bike! I’ve written to Evans, the manufacturer - Specialized and heard nothing from either. I don’t know if this is a Specialized issue or an Evans Cycles issue. But entire crank pedals should not be falling off a bike of 3 weeks old. Certainly not one that cost £700. Nor would one expect it to be delivered damaged. It can’t have been the delivery company as the boxes on the outside we’re fine. The rubber was rotten and fell into a kind of dust inside the bag in the box. So obviously packed or stored like that somewhere. I wouldn’t recommend Evans Cycles to anyone at the moment, I also wouldn’t recommend a Specialized bike either based on my experience. The proverbial happens , I get that. But not to a 3 week old £700 bike displaying no evidence of being loose anywhere! And zero response from Evans is disgusting. Is this company taking advantage of the current Covid situation and churning out bike sales to meet high demand, but lapsing safety measures? Be careful ! I’m a 40 year old woman. This could have been a child’s bike that this happened to . Be careful
