“Beware of HiCounselor! They have a clause stating that even if they do nothing to help you secure a job, they will still claim a percentage of your salary if you get hired. If you refuse to pay—especially after landing the job on your own—they may threaten legal action against you. This is a deceptive practice, so stay away!”
HiCounselor offers a wide range of resources to support job seekers, including resume reviews, automated job applications, one-on-one mentoring, live and self-paced classes, and a distinctive platform for real-world projects to help you gain hands-on experience. These resources, combined with HiCounselor's unique approach, have enabled thousands of candidates to secure positions at leading tech companies. While we cannot guarantee a job or interview—success ultimately depends on your own effort and dedication—HiCounselor operates with complete transparency. We charge no upfront fees and require payment only if you secure a job within 12 months. All terms and conditions are clearly outlined in the agreement provided to candidates.
“Waste of money. They force you to sign ISA and then dont help you in any way. Once you get a job by your own caliber and then they will start threatening you like hell. By sending it to collection company they impacted my credit score as well.”
“This is a fraud company, their services are not worth 500$ and don't ever sign the ISA, they will just create random email addresses for you and send spam emails, none of which will result in a job interview.
And in case you end up finding a job with your own caliber and networking, they will hound you for money threatening legal action. This is their business model, fleecing hopeless immigrant students for money.”
“The program is not worth even a 1000 dollars and they claim a 9% of your earned income though they have nothing to do with your job. Anytime you get a job within a year you need to pay this. And the service is as horrible as horrible can get. It is a rather clever scheme relying on helpless and desperate students.”
“I joined their program last year but I have not been able to find a job until now. Whenever you reach out to them, they just give you false assurances. The interviews they lined up for me turned out to be with companies that wouldn't even respond, though my interviews went well. Their training program is nothing extraordinary that you can't learn by yourself by looking at free YouTube content. I wouldn't advise you to join their pathetic services because I am stuck with the agreement. Please go for job consultancies instead.”
Hi Dan,
Thank you for your feedback and congratulations on landing a job in this tough job market !
I wish I knew who you were so I could provide a more specific answer to your feedback so please feel free to email me privately your info.
Based on your feedback however, there are 2 things I would like to point out.
1- You said that "The interviews we lined up for you turned out to be with companies that wouldn't even respond" but then say that "my interviews went well". So , companies did respond to you (that's how I presume you got the interviews) and then after your interviews, they stopped responding to you. They stopped responding like most companies do at that stage if they don't want to move forward with a candidate. That is very common and unfortunately outside of our control as you can imagine.
2- I can understand that the group sessions or generic training could be basic for your specific situation, but those group sessions are meant to help all candidates from different levels. That's why we also provide advanced self-pace courses on our LMS and also include 1:1 coaching and mentoring to help with your specific requirements/needs as well. I'm not sure if you took advantage of that, but those are not obviously things you can learn simply on your own from YouTube.
Best,
Best
“All the positive reviews that you see here are posted by the company themselves. Just to let you know that a lot of candidates have sued this company because they help you with nothing, their course content is basic and is copied from Coursera (yes, I know that because my Account Manager accidentally spilled the beans one day), but they invoice you immediately once you have found a job as they keep stalking your social media profiles to check if you have found a job yet. Please DO NOT fall prey to this fraud company. Their ISA is predatory and you will NOT get a job through them. When you will find a job through your own means, they will shamelessly invoice you. If you want to read the actual reviews of this company, please check their employees reviews on platforms like Glassdoor. You can understand the values of an organisation from the way they treat their employees. They hire people from India, force them to update their LinkedIn profiles and make them write USA as their location, do not pay them salaries, treat them badly and cheat them anytime they want as employees are remote. Please think multiple times before joining this company.”
Dear Reviewer,
Thank you for your feedback. To address your concerns, we kindly request that you provide evidence of your experience. Once we receive this, we’ll be happy to respond accordingly.
Best,
Hi Ryan, I'm sorry to hear that you feel that HiCounselor didn't do anything for you because you got fewer than 10 interviews. We offered you an extension where we'd support you for another 3 months and work closer with you but you didn't take it. We wish you good luck and success in your job hunt.
“Does not help AT ALL. My counselor never want to help me, but just keep asking me to “update my status”. Specialist who supposed to guidance me are already busy and never replies me. I needed to wait at least 3 weeks to receive advice. My other agent founds a developer job at one of GAFA tech company, HiCounselor immediately started invoicing me and asking me to proceed payment. I wanted to ask my counselor to do reduce fee, as their service did not help, she kept avoiding to meet me but never stop sending me invoice. Eventually they send me a warning of collection. I paid so much money for nothing.”
“I signed up with HiCounselor with the hope of finding job opportunities, but it's been three months, and I haven't received a single interview not even one through their platform. I haven't received any meaningful leads. The only calls I've received have been from consultancies asking for upfront fees in the name of deposit and trainings. HiCounselor's auto job application tool applies to multiple roles, but the majority of them are consultancy roles more than 90% I regret my decision to join HiCounselor, and I would never recommend anyone to join especially for job opportunities or interviews. I am applying to jobs manually, networking with everyone for referrals everything is my effort then for what service should we pay 18% of our salary ( if incase I find something on my own) the only thing which this platform has is auto application and even that is useless full of consultancy firms then why 18%, for what? This is unfair, I feel trapped I should have never joined Hicounselor, how to end the contract?”
Hi, we're sorry to hear that your experience with HiCounselor fell short of your expectations. HiCounselor is committed to help every candidate enrolled in our program land their dream job. I wish I knew your name so I could look at your experience and provide a more personalized response.
The auto job application and email networking while they are not perfect tool, they usually lead to some good results after some fine tuning which could take some time. That could be what's missing in your case and in such cases, we recommend candidates to connect with their CSMs to provide feedback so that we can make those adjustments in the tools. Keep in mind that we also provide referrals to employers from our network and other resources to help you in your job search. If you're not using those yet, please consider that as it will give you another way to land interview opportunities. The CSM is your candidate success manager and main point of contact while you're in the program. Please reach out to him to get your situation reviewed in more detail or reach out to me at rani@hicounselor.com.
“Pays for reviews. Doesn't help at all. Unorganized incoherent lessons thrown together that are at a day 1 intro class level. You will not learn anything in this program, everything is basic common knowledge or easily found on google or youtube which offer much better free versions of what HiCounselor is charging you money for. They will take your money even if you find the job fully on your own. HiCounselor's "training" if you can even call it that does not help at all. HiCounselor does not help you get jobs in any way. They apply to 100's of jobs for you completely randomly, ignoring all location, experience, skills or any other criteria/preferences that you give them.”
We're sorry to hear that you didn't have a great experience with us.
The training we have put in place is to help other candidates who are not as qualified or have as much experience as you. Training with different difficulty levels are now available based on an assessment that our candidates take on their first week so learning is optimized to our candidates' needs.
Our tech applies to jobs based on a candidate's experience, skills and location with a 90% accuracy as verified by other reviewers but we tirelessly continue working on improving it.
Thank you
“Do not consider because HiCounselor can’t help you find your dream job. Before I sign up with them, my account manager booked me a meeting for 15 min. She had no smile, and asked me a few questions really fast. Then said “ok, you are allowed to sign up” and hung up. It was less than 5 minutes. I really had a bad expression about her, but eventually, every meeting with her during my service was the same. Their “proud” auto-application system gives you just a trouble. they request you to create 5 new email accounts because their auto application system send multiple emails to HR people, but what I had was 99.9% of failure of delivery. I became so busy to check those "not delivered" emails every day. Also your email accounts got locked out so many times due to suspicious activity, and I was also busy to un-locking them. Finally, I got my dream job thanks to other recruiter’s help, and they send me bill to pay their “service fee”. I really regret that I didn’t believe my first impression about HiCouselor.”
