Our experirence from the initial visit through to completion was fantastic.
We live in Broughton, MK and had our loft conversion done in August 2014 and it was completed in September, 1 week ahead of the agreed completion date. We were a bit worried at first as the quote supplied by Kingsmead was quite a bit cheaper than the other quotes but we decided to go with our 1st impressions/gut instinct and we were so glad we did.
It was much more than we had originally hoped for due to some of the ideas provided by Adam and his team. They were very proffessional and friendly throughout the project with hardly any mess.

“I would thoroughly recommend Kingsmead. We had our loft conversion done over Christmas 2014 - which on the face of it looked like a silly idea. However, the team were able to get the structure all set up before Christmas and finished the job shortly after Christmas. We were made aware at each stage what was going to happen and were impressed by the team employed to do the job.
Decisions needed to be made along the way and we never felt pressurised - just given the options from which we made our choices.
The room is fantastic and 6 months later we can't remember what it was like before the conversion!

“We had been thinking about making some extra room in the house for some time, then it came to a head when our delightful daughters cried out for their own space! We had a number of loft conversion specialists come round to quote for the work, but Adam was the guy who we felt most comfortable with, we felt that we could trust him and this is exactly what you need when you are making such a large change and investment to your home.
Kingsmead’s quote was not the cheapest or the most expensive, but having spoken to a number of satisfied Kingsmead customers and then viewing a completed conversion, our minds were made up. Everyone we spoke to gave glowing reviews of Adam and the team around the quality of the workmanship, sticking to plans and budget and being friendly and amiable guys. I was only a little worried that it sounded too good to be true.
Now that our conversion is finished (on time and to budget) we are all absolutely delighted with the finished results, our youngest daughter has a brand new bedroom and bathroom finished to her specification and I have at last got my own office and hobby space. No more spreading everything out in the kitchen and then rushing to clear away for meal times . Our eldest daughter is also delighted as she has her room all to herself, at last!!
Karl, Paul, Darren and the rest of the crew were all very friendly and helpful, taking time to explain what was happening, when and why. They were always willing to give advice and input when we needed to make decisions and if we had concerns they made sure we were fully onboard before going ahead. I was very impressed with their patience, especially when I made a few changes.
The only thing that slowed work down was waiting for the arrival of tiles from Spain, and this one was all down to me, one thing I have learnt is that you need to be thinking about finishes and fittings before the work starts and make sure you order what you need in advance to prevent delays.
We were absolutely amazed that we didn’t need to redecorate the hall, stairs and landing, just goes to show the respect that Karl and the builders had for our property.
We should have done this years ago, I can’t believe the difference that this is making to our lives!”
“Communication is key when undertaking any type of building work and Kingsmead excel at this. So, Phone, Email and even SMS all play a key-part when working with Adam.
Adam, from our initial meeting is incredible personable and willing to offer advice/help and explain what is and isn't achievable.
Quotes arrived in a timely manner and everything was clearly defined and explained, architect drawings created and even the option to view other home-projects and drawings, so you could get a good understanding of the work that was going to occur.
Work commenced late June 2016 and went like clock-work - The team we had were great, they builders, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, explained everything they were doing, kept both inside and outside mess to a minimum and even went above and beyond what you would expect.

“We were very pleased we used Kingsmead to convert our loft into a bedroom. We were nervous about doing it as the roof height was quite low( in fact two companies said it couldn't be done). We looked at two properties that Kingsmead had converted with similar needs to ours. This instantly put our minds at rest. The work was completed in 8 weeks. The builders on site were extremely hardworking, happy and chatty. The plumber, electrician and plasterer were fantastic and gave lots of advice and made us feel they were at the end of the phone if we had any concerns.

“I have just had my loft converted by Adam and his team and I heartily recommend them.
I asked a number of local companies to quote for converting my loft into a bedroom and bathroom for me but when Adam came to quote I knew he was the one I wanted to do the job, as he understood immediately what I wanted and offered me two well thought out plans for the space. He did not rush me and was happy to take as much time with me as I needed to work out my plans. “We had a loft conversion (in summer 2015) consisting of 2 new rooms being created. We obtained a number of quotes and had some initial difficulty finding a builder that we had confidence in and a good gut feel about. As our house has trusts and is timber framed the work was more complicated than a normal conversion and some builders didn't give us the confidence that they would do a good job. We also had a deadline to work to as we just had another child and wanted to have this work completed this year so a room was ready for when the baby was old enough to move into it. My wife found this company on the internet so we asked them for a quote. We selected Kingsmead as the quote was reasonable and when discussing the job Adam's knowledge and experience gave us confidence that the work would be completed satisfactorily. All the staff that work for Adam were friendly and hard working and we had no issues at all. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a loft conversion, particularly if you have a timber framed house with trusts. We have been very pleased with the results:)”
“So pleased we used Kingsmead for our recent loft conversion. The results are stunning, all tradesmen were a pleasure to have in the house and they were competitively priced.
I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this company to others. The building work is excellent, no complaints at all! Just as important to me was the quality of the people who were in my home for the time of the building work. They were all friendly, polite, hard working and cleaned up at the end of each day! From Steve and Perry who completed the main structure, the first fix electrician, plasterers and Luke the plumber through to the tiler, next electrician and Darren (who finished the interiors) - I was happy to leave them in the house while I went to work or any other destination!
Even after the build has finished and we've had carpets fitted, we called Adam and Darren popped back to take a little off the bottom of the doors. It is certainly beyond the remit of the build and we are very grateful. It shows a really personal touch to the service we've received.
I'm aware that this review is wholly positive and is possibly not hugely helpful to someone looking to find a builder for themselves! The only negative is that there were a few days when there was a lack of communication and we weren't sure if anyone was coming or not. I won't pretend this wasn't frustrating at the time, but in the grand scheme of things it really is a minor criticism and will be forgotten about very quickly. I understand Adam has already taken steps to avoid this being a problem for future customers.

“We purchased a brand new David Wilson home in July 2014 on two floors with 3 double bedrooms and a single bedroom which came with pre-approved planning permission to build into loft area.
As a family of five and working from home needing an office we were in desperate need of the additional two bedrooms and bathroom that the conversion would bring so two weeks after moving into the new property and after meeting Adam work began.
I must admit i was a little dubious about extending into the loft with a house that was only 2 weeks old but my fears was soon put to bed after meeting Adam's team and the courtesy and professionalism they showed to myself and my family. I felt so comfortable with the guys that a week after they started the work our famiy went on holiday for 3 weeks leaving them to complete the work while we were away and boy were we impressed with the finished article when we returned!
The quality of the conversion was second to none and people looking around our new home assume it was build like this, I cannot recommend them highly enough.”
“I considered a few different firms for my loft conversion, and I sought opinions in advance as well as viewing some completed projects locally (including Adrian I think who's also done a review on here). Having done this and met some satisfied customers I decided to use Kingsmead, who were also competitively priced. I have been very impressed by the standard of the work and Adam and the guys themselves. There were lots of decisions to be made and slight changes of plan as the project went on, and there was never an issue if I wanted to amend something. The work has just been completed between April and June 2015, and the finished bedroom, dressing area with built in wardrobes, and bathroom has made a real difference to my home. The new rooms are spacious and really well lit, and the finish is great quality. I would definitely use Kingsmead again and would recommend them.”
“As a person who tried to find some independant reviews of Kingsmead for our loft conversion, I thought I would give some more detailed feedback of the sort of things I would have liked to find when I was looking around to choose who to invite in to quote for the work.
Glowing reports are not always useful, and tend to make me question if they were in fact written by the supplier!!
So lets start with the con's;
- The start date for the work was delayed for a couple of weeks. Not ideal, and had an impact on other works going on afterwards to the point where we had multiple teams in the house who should have had a nice gap between them. There was a reason given, and it was reasonable, but would have liked it to have started as planned.
- Communications were not always as good as I would have liked. I was not always sure the message for extras or tweaks or requests for updated had got through, though I would find that the message was acted upon - so it obviously was! - I just did not know it until that point.
The Pro's
- Most importantly, we are really pleased with the end result.
- The layout has turned out to be great, and the use of space very well planned out.
- Changes to the plan were possible inside the shell of the loft conversion.
- We were able to adjust things like sockets, walls etc to fit the furniture and fixtures we wanted - some of which literally to the point of the end of the build (ceiling fan position once the fitted wardrobes were spec'd).
- All the workers were polite, clean, and enagaged in their work.
- Anything they ate e.g.: wrappers went straight into a bag, and into the skip. No feeling of mess or being untidy.
- We were asked about specifics as we went along. Facia's, guttering etc.
- Flexed their tming when we had issues with other services which meant a small delay for other company to complete work so Kingsmead could continue.
- Handled our youngest kids well, despite numerous questions of all flavours!
- Felt trustworthy to the point where we were happy to leave the house with them there.
And most importantly to me the trades who have been in since (painter, carpeting, electrician, carpenter) for other work have all commented on what a good solid and well finished build it is - which to me is worth its weight in gold.
Very happy with the end result, from a company whose pricing was one of the best we had had.
Would recommend, and in fact have done so, to others.”
