“This is a disreputable company using deceitful business practices.
After signing up and trying some of their wine I promptly settled all business and cancelled my account. That is when the Laithewaites masquerade begins. For three years and countless hours on the phone (an in written letters sent though snail mail) I attempted to communicate and re-communicate that this account is closed.
Customer service agrees on the phone and apologizes profusely for the misunderstanding; and then another case shows up along with another bill for the case. At first I thought it was just a disconnect between the operations and the finance group and a time gap resulted in the closure of the account. Don't be fooled. This deceptive business practice is their modus operandi and they have no incentive to close it. Buyer beware. This is a fraudulent company using aggressive dishonest tactics.
And I really can get better wine choices everywhere else.”
“I ordered several boxes of wine from Laithwaites and my initial experience was good. However, without any of the promotional discounts they offer, I realized I can get the same quality of wine for much cheaper at Costco. Laithwaites wine is average at best. Once I cancelled my subscription, they sent me another box of wine that I did not order. I attempted several times to reach customer service to return the wine, but no one answered the phone or returned my emails. After I started receiving mail from Laithwaites telling me my account was overdue, I reached out again to explain the situation. They let me know that they would get back to me within 3-5 days with a resolution, but I never heard back. This happened on at least 3 different occasions, wasting hours of my time. Now, over two years later, Laithwaites has sent me to collections over something that I didn't even order. A reputable company would never send one of their customers to collections over something they did not order. Amazon does not send me packages that I do not order and then refuse to answer the phone when I try to return the product. I would highly recommend that you stay away from this company at all costs. Absolute scam!”
“They supply an excellent product at a very fair price. They go all out to help, advise & assist in any way. They also offer a no like, no pay guarantee. I have tried other wine suppliers and no one comes close to this level of service.”
“I have been a customer about a year. The wine sent to me has been good so far, though I don't drink is as fast as they send it. A case is sent UPS quarterly, plus they call you to try to sell you another case several times a year. Since it contains alcohol, the case has to be signed for when delivered. If nobody is home, I have to arrange to pick it up at their freight center. To avoid building too big an inventory, a call to their number will allow you to skip the next case. There is a web site that allows you to tailor your choices. I really have not used that feature much. Some bottles have screw caps and some corks. The wines come from California, Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand. I don't recall getting any German wines, or any from Chile, in the shipments. The wine tends to range in price around $12-$14 a bottle. Maybe German wines don't fit that price point.”
