“I returned from my Leger D Day Landings Tour yesterday which had lasted from October 26th - 29th. I could not speak highly enough of our team crew - Tim, Andy and driver Gary. They were so friendly and efficient and Tim gave us the most excellent descriptions of all the places we visited - word perfect and SO knowledgeable and spoken with real emotion for the sacrifice our soldiers made. I learnt so much and am so much more appreciative of the whole systems of events that took place to win our freedom. I shall wear my poppy with increased knowledge and pride from now on. Thank you all so much.”
“Holiday booked in January to depart end of August however two weeks before departure my husband suffered a heart attack. Leger contacted to see if we could rearrange the date due to the current circumstances. Initially told by customer services that if we had contacted two months earlier we could have quite an insensitive responce as you do not know when a heart attack will occur. Two emails sent no responce to either. Further telephone call to be told no date change but could change names. No family wished to travel as heart attack was serious. I find it hard to understand that a long standing company could not be more understanding and try to support in such a difficult time. We were not asking for a refund just a date change. Ensure you have insurance as Leger are happy to take your money but not happy to support in time of crisis.”
“We went on the Rhine River Cruise and were very annoyed about the food on board the ss Serenade. My co passenger is allergic to wheat and we were assured that her ceiliac condition would be catered for. This did not happen, she was given inedible warmed up previous day's vegetables one evening, which she sent back. They eventually brought her a plate of chips! Microwaved toast was served for breakfast one morning. This is only an indication of how poor her food was.
Also there was no bath plug in our cabin and we were fobbed off with various extraordinary excuses.
On 3 hour coach journeys there were no comfort breaks.
The local guide was, however brilliant and very helpful.
We have been on several leger holidays and always enjoyed them this will be our last.
We arrived back on 30th June and it has taken 6 weeks for them to respond in a very unsatisfactory manner.”
“Communication prior to booking not clear, we found out 2 weeks before departure that our pick up was 2.40am which is not acceptable at our age, most of our holiday was wasted stuck on a coach for hours on end. We would have gladly paid extra to have at least one rest day the travelling has taken its toll on us both. The tour itself was nice but felt rushed and spoilt by how tired we were. The two man crew were very good but seemed to base everything around their driving time so it felt like we were being trapped on a coach without proper comfort breaks to fit in with them. Have done other coach tours where the pace was much more suited to us, will not be travelling with this company again.”
“Did the D Day battlefield tour it was not as advertised, 17hrs from pick up to hotel in Rouen, I think our coach was a school bus as very little legroom & no onboard facilities as kettle was broken, hotel was fine, drivers fine , but we had a rude and arrogant guide who would chastise you in front of other passengers if you were a few minutes late, bearing in mind it was 12hr days as soon as you got back to hotel it was time for bed , it was a 21/2 hr trip each way to the battlefields, not as advertised a full complaints sent to ledger but no response surprise surprise, never again awful experience.”
“Have always wanted to see The Giants Causeway so booked a coach trip headed The Mountains of Morne and the Giants Causeway. The tour guide and driver were very rude and seem to have their own itinerary which differed from the brochure. We were allowed an hour and a half at the Giants Causeway so only got to see a very small part of it, we needed a whole day to see it all. We were told there would be a meal at the hotel when we arrived after a very long journey from Suffolk to Ireland but then told that we would arrive too late. We were told to get a meal on the Ferry
for which we received £15. Hardly enough for an evening meal after all that travelling. When we reached the hotel at 7.30pm the restaurant was serving a party of footballers!!! At one point 6 of us arrived late at the coach because we were told the wrong pick up point and the tour guide ORDERED us to apologise to the other passengers, which I refused to do as it was not our fault. I could mention several more disappointments on this trip but I will just say, steer clear of Leger Holidays. I would never travel with them again.”
“Just returned from Rhine Christmas trip and from start to finish was very stressful. Firstly taxi didn't arrive on time so we missed our connection in Barnsley so the taxi had to take us to Chesterfield. Then onto the horrendous stop 24 our first time and last. We were stuck there for nearly 2 hours no where to sit as it was packed and our age group ranged between 76 and 84 so not much fun.
We finally boarded the ship and cruised to Rudemshime and had to stay there the rest of the holiday as the Rhine was blocked by a tanker no fault of our cruise. Food was not the best we had goulash one night the meat was very nice but the potatoes under it was grey hard with black eyes. I could go on and on as nothing went well really glad to be home I'm not a chef but I could put better food on the table.and desserts every night but one was custard cream and fruit we might be older but we do have our own teeth. We paid just short of 2 thousand pound for 5 days 4 nights for my husbands 80th what a let down . We will stick to Croisi Europe food really good and service very good.”
“I booked a trip last year which unfortunately I had to rearrange for this year. I paid the £50 deposit as requested. They now want me to pay another £50 (total £100) which I will loose then book another trip. They should charge a £100 deposit instead of £50. I have never heard of anything like this before. It's outrageous. I have been on many tours with Leger and I certainly won't be booking anymore that's for sure”
“From start to finish the tour guides hadn't a clue about the places we were going. Know it all Graham, who knew nothing, opened his speech by saying he hadn't done this trip before but he would learn as he went along. At £800 each, we don't expect to hear this. Nor do we want to hear about how many times he had been to Austria, how to keep the coach toilet clean by not using it or about him being in the army. He was rude and arrogant especially to woman. Patronising them for asking questions, which he couldn't answer. We wanted to know times , where meeting places were and knowledge of places we were visiting. The other guide, the good driver at least read some information from wikerpedia, which we were reading ourselves at this point. He also took our suitcases up stairs for us when no porter was available.
Too many hours on the coach and stop offs at uninteresting places is just no fun . 12 hour days then 10 mins on arrival back at the hotel to go to dinner is ridiculous.
The hotels were nice and staff very efficient and friendly. Good food with good service. I just hope the amount of disgruntled people take the time to wrote a review then maybe Leger service will improve. Surely you need to send one guide out who knows what they are doing with one who doesn't know what they are doing so they learn and people get the service they are paying good money for. I was glad to get home, although shattered, glad.”
“They always travel on a Friday the worst day to head out and return. Coming from the North the tendency is to "drop" off every man and his dog in the South first which means we are often on the coach for 18-24 hours in some cases, which is unacceptable. Once they put us on a coach that was made in China owned by a Yorkshire company. hardly any leg space, uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time and the knees were touching the back of the next seat in front. Took 15 hours to get to Yorkshire to our next pick up. Complained of this to Leger who dismissed it as they use the coached for battlefield tours(where you are on and off) they usually take just a few hours travelling not the horrendous journey we had to make. regarding the holidays they are good but catering for the northern sector is almost a non event.”
