“£1,000 radiator sold as 422 W electric but actually 200 W
Purchased a towel radiator from Livinghouse for £1,000 which failed after less than 18 months of normal use when the internal heating element stopped working.
Livinghouse refused to replace it because their warranty on electrical components is 12 months, even though the element itself is manufactured by Terma, whose heating elements typically carry a 2-year manufacturer warranty. Most competing radiator brands such as Acova or Atlantic also provide at least a 2-year warranty on their electric products.
More concerning, the quotation described the radiator as “electric only – 422 W”. In reality the unit is fitted with a 200 W heating element, meaning the actual electric heating output is about 200 W.
Livinghouse argues that 422 W refers to theoretical radiator output under central-heating conditions, not to electric operation.
However, a 200 W electric heat source cannot continuously deliver 422 W of heat, and reputable manufacturers clearly state the actual electric power of their products.
For a premium radiator at this price, this presentation of the specification is highly misleading regarding the real electric heating performance.”
“Having ordered two radiators from living house we were informed that they were not available and that they could supply two replacements that look similar and were of greater value.
Upon opening the radiators it was apparent that the radiators could’ve been purchased at a fraction of the price from another supplier, when we called Livinghouse to discuss they were most unhelpful.
I would avoid this company at all costs.”
