“They did an extension for us with a pitched roof which they use in all of their pictures. It failed building control and cost us over £40,000 to remedy. They caused extensive damage to our garden and to our house. All workers are unskilled and there is no one qualified to do gas and electrics and they did unsafe work on our home which we had to get remedied. They were Expelled from the Federation of Master Builders. Please avoid.”
“Given our experience, we unfortunately have to strongly recommend that customers do not hire this company / Magma Builders / Dimmy for anything, other than perhaps extremely basic minor tasks. Would generally avoid. Our property was damaged by them, left with a number of new problems and the job was done poorly without demonstration of any true care or competence.
Hired Magma / Dimmy to do a bathroom renovation and painting-decorating of our Victorian home.
PROS: Dimmy is friendly at certain times. Did a decent job with wood panelling decor only. Has a team of builders.
CONS: He and his workers did not show respect for the home or competence to execute the job well. Among other things, here are some examples of the faults:
* Severely damaged and scratched our new wood floors and left them covered in permanent building materials (eg, adhesive & plaster) in several places.
*Paint was splattered all over our home items, original banisters and stained glass windows - These things are all precious and quality items that are expensive to restore or replace.
*Broke some of my personal items in the home and cracked one original sash window and failed to tell me about these things until I discovered the damage.
*Areas were overall left in a worse condition than they were before these "builders" worked on it, even if it looks okay from afar (mainly due to our design choices).
*Not great with paintng. Streaky paint - poor-quality finish and peeling paint within weeks which shows a clear lack of experience and failure to prepare and prime surfaces. Carelessly painted several sash windows sealed shut.
*Burst a pipe when demolishing the bathroom and failed to quickly prevent the leak - left stained areas from the leak throughout the house and did not remedy fully.
Please note that nobody in this business is qualified to do electrical or plumbing works so they should never have taken on a bathroom project or pretended (dishonestly) that they are qualified. Electrical shaver socket in bathroom does not work and several electrics that were working just fine in rooms beforehand now no longer work as they tampered with them while painting (we did not ask them to touch these).
Regrettable choice / mistake to use this company - Magma / Dimmy - when one can shop for others that are more competent out there. The company (#11603097) is not particularly cheap either anyway. We got similar quotes from a proper company (with installation warranty) for future jobs which we have since been happy with - So would recommend looking elsewhere. Sharing this review to help others! Have since realised that many of their good reviews appear to be fake.”
“Do not under any circumstances use this builder. Dimmy (Eldimer Pereira) Magma builders are unprofessional, disrespectful, dishonest, and very irresponsible. He is a rogue trader and has now left our property with several things outstanding from building control with builder’s waste everywhere. It was clear he didn't know what he was doing in several areas.
He is not gas safe, he is not a qualified electrician, and it turns out he does not have any staff members that have these qualifications. None of his workers are skilled or qualified tradesman and the workman ship was poor in every area. The finish of their work is appalling, and they are extremely messy and do not clean up after themselves. If has done electrical or gas work for you in the past or present I suggest you get it checked by professionals and he hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing.
He is very aggressive and has upset several of our neighbours with his extremely rude manner and tone. He lies and is not trustworthy.
