“I don’t usually leave reviews for stores, as I understand that people are simply doing their jobs. However, I’ve never felt so looked down on in a shop, and I feel compelled to share our experience. My partner and I are first-time buyers, and in the excitement of purchasing our first home, we decided to spend our Sunday browsing for sofas. Since it’s a new build, we don’t yet have exact measurements, but we wanted to get a sense of styles and pricing. We walked into Nick Scali in Cheltenham with our two children and sat on one of the sofas. A sales consultant approached us and asked what we were in the store for. We replied that we were just browsing, but before we could explain further, we were abruptly and patronisingly told that our children shouldn’t be “stirring in the furniture.” I was taken aback—our children weren’t jumping or playing, just sitting quietly. The tone and manner in which we were spoken to were unnecessarily harsh. The consultant then walked off without offering any further assistance. We were genuinely interested in a particular sofa and wanted to ask if a certain deal was available in a different fabric, but we didn’t get the chance. It felt as though we were judged based on our appearance and the fact that we were “just browsing.” I completely understand that working in retail can be challenging, but the way we were treated was unfair and dismissive. The store was empty at the time, so it wasn’t as though the consultant was rushing off to help another customer. We visited several other furniture stores in the same retail park that day, and every other staff member we encountered was welcoming and helpful. This stark contrast made our experience at Nick Scali all the more disappointing. I never leave reviews, but this experience left such a sour taste that I feel others should be aware. I won’t be returning to this store, and unfortunately, this one interaction has shaped my opinion of the brand.”
