“I would give this company negative stars if I could. I have spent a lot of money with them over the years, I just ordered a set of sprays can for a three colour sunburst and, as everybody knows the central colour is amber. They have not sent me any amber so I called them to explain. He said "have you tried it, tobacco brown is amber, what you have got is correct." I said that tobacco brown is not amber to which he immediately threw a load of verbal abuse at me telling me over and over that tobacco brown is amber. I was astonished and raised my voice to be heard explaining that I have spent a lot of money with them over the years to which he said he didn't care. The ignorant pig just raised his voice louder to shout over me non-stop. I said will you listen to me and he aggressively shouted 'no' and rambled on that he hasn't sent the wrong item then hung up on me. Appalling behaviour and for a company that sells paint he has no clue about colours. That is the last time that I order anything from them or recommend them.
The Classic 3-Colour Palette
A traditional 3-tone sunburst transition follows this sequence from the centre outward:
Amber (or Vintage Yellow): This is the base coat applied to the centre of the guitar. It is often a transparent Vintage Amber or Lemon Yellow that allows the wood grain to remain visible.
Translucent Red (or Cherry Red): The middle ring that blends the yellow into the darker edges. In vintage terms, this is often called Faded Cherry or simply Red Dye.
Dark Brown / Black: The outermost edge. Normally Fender traditionally used a very dark brown known as Dark Salem Maple or Tobacco Brown (which appears nearly black) and or a solid Opaque Black to frame the instrument.”
