“Record-go has charged us 340,40 Euros for a damage in our rental car that we have not caused.
I do not recommend using this company but if you do, please consider taking photos and videos at pickup and drop off times, inside and outside of the car. The due diligence that they should do at pickup and dropoff is missing, so it is left to customers to do part of the company job.
We have registered complaints with both La Junta Arbitral del Transporte de Mallorca and with UKICC (UK International Customer Centre) as British citizens.
Our rented car was a white Toyota Yaris with licensed plate number 5192MNT and it was rented up until 5th August 2024. The damage reported was on the right back of the car. I am sharing this information as I think this same damage could have been charged to many different customers.
In the first place Record-go gave us a car that was not safe to drive, the steering well kept making a noise when making any turn and when driving on any minor speed bump. They could not change the car at the time of pick up because they do not have a big enough fleet and ran out of cars by the time we requested a change. We were going to drive around Mallorca and this car did not feel safe to drive.
Hence we had to come back at 7am the next day to change the car. The lady who dealt with this change showed discomfort attending our demand and was very happy to leave us with that unsafe car. Finally she admitted that a new car was needed and gave us another one very quickly and did not inspection the car with us. She did not do any due diligence and we suspect the later charge in our card may have already been planned at this time, as a way of retaliation.
The car was returned with no damage and we had no issues when dropping it, as the drop-off kiosk was busy the employee who took the keys did not have the time to come with us to inspect the car and we were ok not to take his time as we have had no issues with the car, we were happy to leave it there for them.
Six hours later Record-go sent us an email informing us of a damage in the car and we were sent an invoice from Tasarauto Global Services S.L. with details of the repair needed and its cost. On top of that Record-go charged us 50 euros for Damage Admin Fee.
They attached 3 pictures and in none of them we can see both the damage and the plate number together.
We are certain that we have not caused this damage. The damage in the pictures they sent would have been heard if we were to do it while driving or parking and, if it was to be made while the car was parked, we would have seen it, specially it being a white car and the damage being very noticable. We checked the car around at drop off and the damage was not noticed, shame that we did not take pictures then. We have 2 young kids and it is not always easy to leave them out of the car in a busy parking while taking pictures for a possible later fraud that we didn't anticipate.
We hope this review helps others renting a car, please do not use Record-go, it seems cheaper than others but it is not in the end, it has been such an unpredicted and unbudgeted expense for us.
Record-go generates an automatic response to their reviews, it is always the same response, and as we are anticipating it here too, this is our response to their reply: No, you are not at the customer disposal at drop-off because no one from Record-go team came out to inspect the car with us, breaking your own contract. This is what you sign with customers in the contract:
"Un rental chequeará el vehículo con el arrendatario a la devolución y se tendrán en cuenta sus alegaciones".”
“We booked a small category vehicle (Seat Ibiza) via Booking.com with full cover through Booking.com. In the meantime, before the trip, my card was stolen and then cancelled. Since this was Christmas time, the bank took longer to issue a new card and it didn't arrive on time.
At the airport we paid for the second driver, who had all his cards, but the lady at the counter said she couldn’t give us the car then. I asked if she could change the main driver. Of course, but only if she charged us extra 275 euro for full cover. She also said she had no problem showing me where it said so. Pretty rude, I’d say. Especially since that was the very card that paid for the booking. Nobody minded then.
There was no "Just a second, I'll talk to my manager and see what we can do". Nothing. It was like her sole goal was to squeeze out all the money she could. She left the wrong address and email and phone number in the system and on the document (mine). I checked it before she changed the driver, but she never asked us to recheck the data after.
Nothing really mattered any more as soon as she took money. And we got C3 Aircross, which is twice the size we wanted. Why did we choose the vehicle category if they give us whatever they want anyway?
No manual, of course. We had to look online for all the initial issues.
We travel a lot and frequently rent cars. Sometimes there are unexpected problems and in such cases all the companies so far have tried to help or find a compromise.
Record Go apologized. They are thankful they can benefit from my experience and improve. They'll forward the complaint to their staff manager. However, the lady just did her job. It was all in accordance with the company rules.
Of course it was. Which tells you a lot about the company. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to help them improve. Cost me a few, but helping companies to do better is... priceless?”
