Avoid! Don’t pay a deposit they will keep it! Don’t use these at any cost. They tell you the car is in excellent order over the phone, but you’ll be disappointed when you see it. It was listed in great condition. Like all the cars are. To reserve a car is £200 fee and there is nothing in the small print to say it’s non-refundable. To most people you would take it as a holding fee. I was looking at a 2016 grey Golf GTD VE16YBA and spoke with them over the phone, however couldn’t agree a price for a part exchange, which is totally acceptable. Steve sounded perfectly fair, saying he just couldn’t meet my personal valuation. The call was then ended and he wished me good luck in a search for a car. No deal was discussed in relation to the Golf. Later that evening I decided to buy the Golf and would sell mine privately. In an effort to show commitment and save an hours journey there, I placed a £200 reserve fee. The following morning dead on 9am Steve called me and said “you’ve had a change of mind” and I agreed to go up that morning to view it. He said it would need to be valeted and I agreed to get up to him at midday. When I got there the car was not in great condition. Paint was peeling on the rear bumper. The rear wheel arch had a cheap paint job, the bumper wasn’t fitted correctly. The paint around it was like rough sandpaper. There was a scratch on the door to the metal and both headlights had fogged over. Rather than waste anymore time, I told Steve it’s not for me. He then said if we do the bumper would you have it, then saying we couldn’t do that anyhow. He then told me that the £200 was non-refundable to cover their costs. I was astounded and flabbergasted. What costs? Steve said they would have to re-advertise it. That costs them nothing. And the valeting is part of the process. It was only off the market a few hours. He said I’ll speak with the manager and to put it in an email. Which I did. I also took photos of the damage. A day or two later they confirmed they would not refund the £200 and the car had been sold the next day so obviously in great condition. Some poor person has a car I’m sure they’ll be disappointed with when they look closely. How can they take £200 when the car hasn’t been viewed physically. If they delivered it I fully understand costs around that, but I went there within a few hours of reserving it. There is nothing in the terms other than they will reimburse the costs. Absolutely disgusting garage to deal with. Their owner Michael Wood even has the cheek to post on his Facebook profile, he tries to behave like a decent human being. Not certain how he can sleep at night if that’s the actions of a decent person. Avoid them, they are just trying to con you and they sell poor cars all crammed in.

I bought a Lexus 200 Hybrid last month. I have been very happy with it and love saving money on car tax and petrol! The guys at Stockport Car Supermarket were wonderful - friendly, polite and efficient; they couldn't have been better. I think it can be overwhelming for a woman on her own to go into car sales rooms but they made me feel instantly at ease and they were very helpful. Thank you so much Stockport Car Supermarket!!
