“My family is hard on phones. We have had at least three dropped in the WC or in a puddle on the road. As an Engineer I use my phone to photograph labels and items that I can see better by enlarging the screen so the screen inevitably gets scratched.
So, I was delighted to see that Blackview had produced a rugged device at a very reasonable price (I think they got their name for producing rugged devices originally).
So, it’s an Android 15 phone, a much newer version than my old Motorola Moto G which runs Android 11 and there are quite significant OS changes which I won’t detail here. The important bits about this phone are its resistance to being dropped and its degree of water resistance. And do you really drop a new phone on the floor and submerge it in a bowl of water??? Well, if you are me, you do, ‘cos it has to survive that to be any use else it goes back to Amazon. I did both. You can see in my photo that it kept working when half-submerged (OK – I could have used a bigger bowl, I suppose) and showed no signs of any damage at all after I dropped it on the floor on its edge.
One thing to note in particular is that this is a pretty big device. It is 170mm tall, including its rubber-bumper case, even bigger than the Moto G but fortunately still fits in my waist-belt, XXL size case. I like having a good acreage of screen so I am not always reaching for my specs.
Oh, and it is an AI device, with built in Deep Seek, but I quickly used up my free allowance of credits!

New Google Android OS takes a bit of getting used to, but that is not down to the phone manufacturer. And you can always delete any of the myriad of apps that you don’t need.”
“I recieved a brand new phone blackview A55 that I bought on amazon.ca the 12 of september 2022. Everything was ok, not the best phone, but I use it to play my games and for texts mostly. I went to pick it up to play and nothing!!! It was frozen, dead the 19 of november after 2 months!!! Could open or close nothing!! Like the batterie was dead!! Amazon refused to refund me because they have a 30 days warranty for everything electronic ect, the guy didn't care on the phone he said call blackview company!!! The blackview company said contact the seller, the seller never respond to anything, so I ask to make a complain against a seller, and no, I can't do that eighter!!! 150$ in the garbage!!! I was expecting it to last 1 year that's all!!! 2 months?? Blackview refuse to honnor the warranty of electronique device of 1 year!! Keep your money!!”
