Tucan seem to have a policy of always using central hotels which is great. The tour leader had a great combination of professionalism and being friendly, he got us out of one potentially tricky spot really well. The range of places, accommodation and travel that we were provided with were fantastic. The group meals gave us chance to share our stories and inspire others on what to do next, Thank you for a fabulous holiday, I'll be back.

An inexpensive way to experience ancient Mayan sites in different countries as well as current Mayan culture and Spanish colonial cities.

San Ignacio was not worth staying at. Hotel was far from town and town was boring. All of our activities were cancelled due to weather.

Tucan's adventure tours are brilliant and well-run. They combine well-researched and run activities that offer both some of the advantages of group travel (convenience, low cost and companions) with a good mix of independence. The tour leaders are quite good and helpful. Tucan's overland tours are also good, but in my opinion, they have way too many people on them. The disadvantages of these are many, the principal being that the trips become as much (if not more about) the travelers than the destination. This aspect takes away from the experience of getting to know places and its people.

This was the 2nd tour I have done with Tucan and I enjoyed it very much and look forward to my next. I think it provides good value for money, removes all the hassle and is a well shaped itinerary. My only criticism is I would remove San Ignacio. The town is a dump (and really rather sketchy), there is nothing at all to do there but very expensive activities which aren't amazing and the hotel we stay at is in the middle of nowhere. Everyone would prefer a night or two on the Belize coast instead of here. I also think it would be great if you could have trips with more comfortable hotels. Most of the travelers on both of the tours I have done with you would have happily paid a bit extra for nicer hotels and I think it is a market you are missing. I do a lot of tours (at least a few a year) and this is something that a lot of other providers now do and they are very successful. I would also like to highlight how great Nancy was. My friend and I often wanted to do additional activities, try nicer restaurants etc and she was fantastic and so helpful. There were also a few pretty difficult and selfish girls who she really managed well to save them spoiling all our trips or causing any tension among the travelers. Thanks again Kylie

There was another person over 41 on this trip for 18-35 year olds. - But he would booked through the Australian office, not the UK office. I was told at booking as that as a special I can do it a few years after 35 and that I cannot go on another of these Budget Expeditions after reaching 40 years because it would break the Tucan terms and condtions. It was nearly my 40th birthday when this one ended. - But look half that.

I have travelled with Tucan Travel several times in the last four years. While I prefer their Overland Tours my wife prefers their Adventure Tours. Both forms of travel have been excellent in organisation, destinations, optional activities, experienced guides and value for money. I have already booked Myanmar and Japan with my wife and South America Overland Tour next February.

Had a great adventure with Toucan - travelling from LIma to La Paz . Got to experience the local culture with very little time spent in large urban towns or cities - just what I was looking for. The Peruvian people are warm and welcoming and the landscape stunning. The tour was very demanding physically and at times I thought I had bitten off more than I could chew!! however wouldn't have missed any of it - even the Lares Trail. The experience of having my back pack stolen on the second day was extremely stressful and a major challenge to replace passport, Peruvian immigration form, credit cards, money etc. So a few tips for anyone else finding themselves in this position. Not all countries have an embassy in LIma and if you are lucky enough to find you're Embassy it may take 24-48 hours to have your passport replaced. You will need a copy of your old passport, copy of your itinerary and a police report. You will be able to replace your Peruvian immigration form in LIma, Ariquipa or a Cusco however these offices have limited opening hours - Peru is a beautiful country - and in spite of my 'little problem' I would strongly recommend this trip to anyone with an adventurous spirit

Recent tour from Lima to La Paz. Beautiful Country, the Cities are full of character chaos and personality. It is so vast and you travel miles to get to next destination. I got a great feel of the Country, history and culture. The people are friendly and hospitable. I went in June and I'm still assembling it all in my head as we did so much! A few down sides - we travelled on our 2nd day to Pisco by Public Bus which was a great experience but my friends backpack with Passport money ect got stolen. I know we all have to be aware and responsible, but when you have travelled literally from the other side of the world and are jet lagged your thinking process may not be normal! I think a reminder from the guide would have prompted her to not put her backpack on the rack above head. So you can imagine the procedure we had to through to rectify this! We didn't allow it to spoil our holiday. Also when we arrived in Machu Pitcchu I felt we should have been given a few mins to gloat on the awe factor! Instead the guide started his talk immediately, it may be routine for him but for us it is a one off. Overall I would recommend Tucan and our guide Mike was like a friend.

I have traveled with Tucan on 5 trips and I have another planned in November. Overall, I have enjoyed the experience. The guides are generally knowledgeable and help you get the most from your trip. I would recommend Tucan for anyone who wanted a genuine travel experience but with the benefit of having a group and guide.

Organized and informative guide who was always willing to go the extra mile to accommodate. Ended up booking through a third party though because it was cheaper. It should always be cheaper booking direct!

We loved our 6 week Nairobi to Cape Town trip. Tanya our tour leader was sensational, a true profession who knew her craft so well. Only thing that would have been nice would to have had a bit more of a diverse group, so many Australians (I am one of them). Thanks for a great tour!
