Travel in Cuba seems more difficult than in other countries but there is definitely room for improvement. More explanation and assistance with optional activities is one such area.

Hi Vadim. Travel in Cuba has many challenges and it is important to approach the tour with flexibility and be adaptable to any changes that have to be made. We are always working on improving all of our tours and will take your comments on board.

I had a super time on my trip to South America on the South American Flyer. My guide Wilson was really helpful and kind. However, I booked 2 nights extra accommodation at the end of the trip in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and I was charge about 190 pounds sterling (one month in advance - I would have had to pay an extra admin fee if I had waited). When I got the venue, I heard another traveller booking a room and it made me inquire about the price and it was about one quarter of what I paid. I was very disappointed with Tucan - I accept that there will be a mark-up but the level of the mark up that I was charged feels like exploitation. I would not book extra accommodation with Tucan again.

Hi Colette, We are really sorry about that. Due to currency fluctuations, the Brazilian Real is much weaker now than it was when we set the prices for our extra accommodation. We are delighted that you had such a good time on your South America Flyer. Wilson is an amazing tour leader and the cities you went to must have really blown you away. We haven't received your feedback questionnaire yet but if you email feedback@tucantravel.com we would like to provide you with a voucher for £100 off your next group tour as an apology for the price discrepancy. All the best on your next adventure, Jess @ Tucan Travel

We recently, early 2015,toured Cuba with Tucan and it was mostly enjoyable and well organized. However towards the end there was an 8 hour plain delay from Baracoa, with no explanations and on arrival at our hotel, the group was told there was no room for us and we would have to find our own accommodation in Havana - the Tucan guide tried to find alternatives but was unable to help and switched off his phone....no other help forthcoming ....no compensation offered...left to our own devices to find hotels and arrange new transfers. It certainly wasn't easy with our limited Spanish!

Hi Vladas, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. When travelling by public transport, delays can happen and while we understand that this can be very frustrating, unfortunately, it is completely outside of our control . We are aware that there were some operational issues surrounding your accommodation in Havana. Alternative accommodation was provided along with a complimentary dinner for the inconvenience. To leave further comments, please email feedback@tucantravel.com Kind regards, Jess @ Tucan Travel

My wife and I did the combination of Patagonia and Antarctica. We enjoyed the scenery. We had a very good tour guide from El Calafate to Ushuaia, Stephanie Stein, who was very friendly and has great people skills. On the negative side, I would say that combining the tours is difficult as different luggage is required for the two destinations, and Patagonia (especially Torres Del Paine National Park) is geared towards backpacking, which we have never done. More information about the tour in the brochure would have helped us make a decision on whether that type of tour was suitable for us. The Antarctica expedition was excellent.

Hi Graham, I'm so pleased you enjoyed Patagonia and Antarctica overall. Packing for big trips is always a big struggle, especially for Patagonia and Antarctica where warm clothes and hiking boots are necessary. Our website contains packing lists and guides on what to expect from our tours to help you to prepare as much as possible. Please get in touch if you have any further feedback by emailing feedback@tucantravel.com Kind regards, Jess @ Tucan Travel

Have been impressed with Tucans itinerary and office staff but some of their CEO need more training. Would like to see more local CEO's.

On our first trip this year, we felt that Tucan had definitely improved from our first experience approx. seven years ago! The 2 subsequent tours however suggest otherwise. On the + side, accommodation is good as is the available transportation and general organization. Tucan office staff are all good to deal with. Areas to improve; a Tour Leader can make or break a tour! For the new leaders, it seems that either it's just a means for them to get free travel or the training is not sufficient. They seem to know the Tucan policies and procedures but have little local history or knowledge and don't seem that customet focused or interested! Also a native/local Tour Leader is preferable, from our experience. The published itineraries also tend to overstate/embellish the activities or are very vague.

I would think twice about using Tucan if your not a back packer! There main attention is on tips tips tips!! It's an already heavily priced service & yet they want tips of each traveller daily, from drivers, to guides, to anything they can really. Some of the tours are good, some of the guides are good...some not so much. Accommodation is poor to average. Like I said if your a backpacker or don't care ab

Tucan is reasonably priced and the tour leaders are competent. Intrepid is still my favorite tour company but Tucan can be a good fit with the right itinerary and price point.

I wrote an e-mail to Tucan at the time of my Tour ending and received no response. I was happy with the experience of the Countries I visited BUT was not happy with the behaviour and attitude of the Tour Leader. This was all contained in the mail that I sent.

We took the Mayan circle tour last summer and are guessing that our guide Lisa never sent the feedback forms to you or we (and fellow travellers who we've kept in contact with) would have heard back from you. Positives :itinerary-places visited negatives :accommodation in caye caulker and Flores was disgusting. We expected basic not broken noisy and mouldy rooms. Ridiculous transport in vw vans where you had to travel 6 hours and not have a seat you can fit in as a normal sized person. These are minor niggles the big one was the tour guide-Lisa. Rude -if she didn't want to answer a question, help you or not interested shed ignore you or walk away mid conversation. Selfish - whenever there was a front seat available on a mini bus she would take it and even told one of the 6' girls who got there first to get out as it was her seat. Selecting best rooms for herself (confirmed by hotel manager in Rio dulce) and generally putting herself before the group in all situations. She was very organised at least and incredibly nice on the last night for some reason! Unfortunately she has put us off using Tucan again.

Overall I had a great experience travelling with Tucan. On the whole we were well looked after and went to some fantastic places. However, there were several issues that cropped up that led us to question the professionalism of the tour leader. For example, we had paid a lump sum of $800 cash at the beginning on the tour, for things like buying food etc. Towards the end of the trip, we found it hard to believe that all of this money had been spent on our food. We were living off basic (and cheap) things like pasta and sauce, and only once or twice bought premium products like nice cheese and wine (even though I had made it clear that I do not drink wine). Thus my money was basically spent on the tour leader and driver enjoying their alcohol. Speaking to others on the trip who had been on tours with different companies, at the end of the tour they had received a break down of the costs incurred and always got a refund of any money unspent. I think we deserved this kind of openness. Especially as many of our scheduled meals from the budget did not even happen due to varying reasons. At times the group morale turned unpleasant because of the relationship between the tour leader and driver, as they often had strong disagreements. Bumping into another Tucan Tour towards the end of our trip was an eye-opener. It seemed that the other group were getting far more benefits than us, such as their driver taking them to places where we would have to pay for our own taxi, and them having better quality meals. Also, when they went out for meals when they were meant to have a camp dinner, they would be given the money back that was budgeted for that meal. This never happened to us. I had to stay in hospital for a few days, whilst the tour carried on without me. It worried me slightly that I had not once heard from my tour leader until I emailed her on the fourth night of me being in hospital. It is a shame that these things happened as it overshadowed an otherwise brilliant trip. I know that the job of a leader and a driver is a relentless task, and most of the time they were great, but the issues that cropped up did affect us quite a lot. For these reasons, I have been put off travelling with Tucan again.

I have been on 19 adventures trips, with at least 7 different companies and intend to do many more. This trip was mostle very good (especially Lake Orhid), but I was very much disapponited with the following drawbacks: 1. The Hotel in Skopje was nice except we seemed to be next to a nightclub which was booming music till 1am (my room was partly vibrating with the noise) and we also had to get up and leave very early the next morning as part of our schedule, so it wasn't a good location for sleeping. 2, Budva was a very lovely resort and it was exasperating to be staying so many miles outside and away from it in a hotel surrounded by farmland and farm like noises. We also had then to run the costly gauntlet of getting ripped off in cabs every time we went to and fro to Budva from our hotel. From what i could see in Budva there was very cheap accomodation available within 5 minutes walk of the beach and feel the itinerary in the Brochure should be more transparent honest about the location of the accomodation being so far away from the resort. I haven't had a problem like this to this extent with any other operator and it makes it difficult for me and other travellers to trust future Tucan itineraries. 3. The Hostel type accomodation in Dubrovmik was very poor, but that didn't actaully worry me, what did was that i was next door to a very major building site, with a ridiculous amount of constant noise from very early in the morning. There is no way tucan cannot know about this (or there is something seriously wrong with communicattions) so it does seem appaling to deliberately situtate Tucan customers there, when no other person in their right mind would stay there for free next to the very nosiy buliding sites (With pneumatic drills etc). The Balkan countries were great and I dont mind that we had 2 coach/bus breakdowns, with very lengthy delays (as that is just misfortune) but the issues I detailed above don't compare favourably with the higher standards of service and more appropriate haccomodation locations that I have had in all my other adventure trips (across a variety of operators that I have used in the past).

Trans Mongolian Railway 15 July - 4 August 2013 On the whole, the tour was well organized, but, although she was charming, our tour guide (Leena Nair) was very inexperienced, with very little or no knowledge of the countries visited! I would have liked much more background information. This was very disappointing and, for this reason, I may or may not recommend TT...

Tour was advertised as starting in Delhi but didn't really start (that is meet up with group) until Agra. So in Delhi there was no tour leader and I was on my own even though I was paying for a guided tour. That said, the tour guides in both India and Nepal were excellent and the trip was very interesting.

The trip itself i.e. the itinerary, route taken and activities included was as expected. What was poor was the lack of information from our guide. This is from the start of the day to the end of the day, even when arriving at a destination and still no information was given. No instructions as to how long we would be staying at each point or what the finish time and meeting point is. Sometimes other people in the group had to wait up to an hour for the rest of the group to get back because no specific time was given for the end of the excursion. It may well be that the guide communicated poorly due lack of English. The person who was organising the trip should have been the guide as her English was clear and concise as she took the welcome meeting. The guide never said a word at this meeting which should have given us a clue.

This is the second tour I have done with Tucan. The tour leader was good but half way through another girl training to be a leader joined us and she was so useless (she'd never been a tour leader anywhere before) and she was doing the trip by herself right after ours (was not an easy trip through Europe or anything either). Was disappointed there were people in their late 70s on the trip also- they could not keep up with the group.

tucan, not as good as comes across. the management need to make sure that their tour guides are provided with sufficient information to provide their clients or send to their clients before they arrive. Trouble with getting maps when arrived and lack of knowledge and assumption by clients can prevail. And tell their staff not to bring/or have friends along, even if they assist paying for some of the costs. The distracted from tour guide on our trip a bit. the friends were nice but felt the tour person was not as good as before they arrived. . The tour person also always tended to take the group to a place they picked for most meals, and whoppy they never paid, this occurs a lot. A lot of the places on the tour are not included, be careful with what is and is and isn't included. The company representative with the tour was advised about some things, such as where to hire bikes etc. sometimes these sought of things were not good bikes to ride/ or broke down. Trouble with organising some public transport with insufficient funds and we were lucky to catch the train, good thing it was late. Most places we stayed were as i expected. The actual places they escorted you to were good. Actually i wouldn't call the tour guides guides as our really didn't. rather directors, telling you where to go and what can be seen in some places. i often found my searching on the computer was a lot better. I have travelled on many such tours but this one let me down. I have travelled with lots of different cultures and sites. My views are mine and is only based on this particular tour, maybe as an older person ( although not the oldest) and having travelled many times before i expected a little bit more.

The first part of the tour from Rio to La Paz's accommodations were not clean especially the campsite in Paraty and Salta. Salta had the worst sanitation - the bathroom and toilets particularly were horrible. The whole group did the upgrade and stayed in the lodge because of the cold weather. Anyway, inside each lodge (casita) there was hardly any hot water. Basically most of us did not shower. The hotels in Peru were good, Uyuni, Bolivia's hotel without heat or consistent shower was painful. After all it was South America. The tour itinerary was top class. Wouldn't change it at all.
