“Just returned from Boston after attending my son’s graduation and had a very mixed experience flying Virgin Atlantic across four sectors:
14 May – VS301 – Delhi to London
14 May – VS011 – London to Boston
24 May – VS4012 – Boston to London
25 May – VS302 – London to Delhi
I normally fly Emirates or Etihad for long-haul travel, but due to the uncertainty and possible disruptions around Middle East airspace at the time, I decided to try Virgin Atlantic for this trip.
Honestly, the experience was so inconsistent that it genuinely felt like I had flown with two completely different airlines.
DEL-LHR (VS301) was, quite honestly, one of the weakest long-haul international flight experiences I have had in recent years. The cabin crew appeared visibly uninterested, lacked warmth, and at several points came across as indifferent and unapproachable. There was very little sense of hospitality or attentiveness throughout the flight.
The food quality was genuinely poor — both in presentation and taste — especially for an international overnight sector of this duration. Even basic aspects of the onboard experience felt neglected. To make matters worse, USB/power functionality at the seat was not working properly, which is unacceptable today on a premium international airline operating long-haul routes.
What disappointed me most was the overall atmosphere onboard. The flight lacked energy, professionalism, and the welcoming environment passengers expect when flying internationally. Instead of feeling cared for, passengers largely felt processed. Frankly, the entire sector felt far below the standards associated with a reputed global airline and nowhere remotely close to the consistency and service culture seen on airlines like Emirates or Etihad.
LHR-BOS (VS011) was somewhat better, but still nowhere near the premium standards set by leading Middle Eastern carriers. Service improved marginally, but consistency and refinement were still missing.
However, the return journey completely changed my perception.
BOS-LHR (VS4012) was an absolute pleasure to fly. The crew was attentive, courteous, smiling, and genuinely service-oriented. The meals improved noticeably, and the entire atmosphere onboard felt polished, comfortable, and welcoming.
Then came the biggest surprise — LHR-DEL (VS302).
Without exaggeration, this was a 10/10 experience in every department. Outstanding cabin crew, warm attitude, excellent hospitality, efficient service, much better food, and an overall premium feel throughout the journey. The crew on this sector represented exactly what a global airline should aspire to be. If my review were based only on this flight, Virgin Atlantic would receive top marks from me.
So overall, this was a surprisingly inconsistent experience — ranging from highly disappointing to genuinely world-class depending entirely on the route and operating crew. Virgin Atlantic clearly has the capability to deliver an exceptional product, but consistency across sectors remains a serious issue.
Credit where due: the return sectors, especially VS302, were exceptional and deserve recognition.
Might consider in future cause of last flight
Thanks”
