“Title: Publishing Problems, Poor Communication, and No Resolution I paid Hampton Publishers $1,177 for publishing services for two cookbooks, one English and one Spanish. The services included editing, formatting, cover design, ISBNs, printing, and distribution. Unfortunately, my experience was very different from what I expected. Communication was inconsistent, and I was repeatedly transferred between representatives, making it difficult to maintain continuity and receive consistent answers. The printed books had serious problems, including missing pages, incorrect formatting, and numerous spelling and formatting errors. Both printed copies had missing recipes. The Spanish copy had an incorrect spine. I was verbally told that printed copies would be delivered to my home for approval, and at one point I was told I would receive 10 copies. I was later told this was not included in my contract, and I ultimately paid for copies myself. I was also offered additional services, including copyright and marketing packages, at an extra cost. Later, I was told additional fees would be required to republish through Ingram Spark to correct publication issues. I declined to pay additional fees for those corrections. On May 8, 2026, Hampton Publishers suspended further work and involved their Legal and Compliance Department. I requested a refund but did not receive the resolution I requested. I ultimately spent substantial additional time completing my project independently and have reported my experience to the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division and the BBB. Based on my experience, I would not hire Hampton Publishers again. I recommend that authors carefully review the contract, ask about all potential fees, and keep important promises and agreements in writing, preferably via email.”
