“The only brand of shoes my family uses at the moment! The design, the materials and the concept are simply the best for our feet. Comfortable, lightweight, healthily roomy for all the toes, flexible beyond most other barefoot shoes due to the split in the sole. Just masterfully designed, health, comfort and functionality in mind. Only a few minuses; one, not entirely waterproof. But I gladly trade this away for the foot health and comfort these shoes provide us. Wellies are for rainy days. Also making these shoes completely waterproof would probably require more chemicals and plastics which I don't want. Another slight minus is the seeming slant over the recent years towards vegan shoes and the ideology around that. I see nothing wrong with ethically sourced animal products, which mankind has a long history in using ethically and successfully, and there's very little in the plant materials that can ever trump materials like leather and wool. Especially without more and more chemicals, plastics, pollution and further dive into something artificial and toxic. At the very least you sacrifice durability and begin making disposable shoes that can't last. So I would love to see Wildling not get too carried away and to provide equally to both, to those that like shoes made of plant materials, and to those who still and always will love and trust in leather and wool and other animal products, just like our ancestors did. Let's not forget the ancient wisdom and where we come from, equally with new information and new discoveries. I give 5 stars despite the 2 issues described above, because right now as they are, these shoes are perfect for me and my family. And I want the company to know that we appreciate them and love their shoes, and we want to encourage them to keep it up, and do even better in the future!”

When chosing materials our approach is working with partners which allow us to have a transparent supply chain making sure that the health of our planet and the wellbeing of all people involved are ensured. This often means using plant-fibres and we also appreciate working with partners like Nordwolle, providing our feet with the coziness and natural functionality of wool while supporting their work of regenerating landscapes in northern Germany with the help of the Pommeranian Sheep living there. We're always testing materials while also relying on those already providing the soft feeling and positive regenerative impact. “Ich kenne keine anderen Schuhe, in denen ich so gerne laufe. Ich habe Gehen neu lieben gelernt und trage keine anderen Schuhe mehr. Ganz große Wildling-Liebe! Ich bin immer wieder überrascht, wieviel Feuchtigkeit die Wollschuhe im Winter abhalten. Kleine Wehmutstropfen bleiben: Meine Talas trage ich mit einer dickeren Einlegesohle, weil sie für meine sehr durchschnittlichen Füße etwas zu weit sind. Meine Eden sind eingelaufen, als sie nass geworden sind, so dass ich jetzt wünschte, ich hätte eine Größe mehr genommen. Die Federn muss ich so festziehen, dass die Lasche 2 cm auf dem Boden hängt.”

“Toller Shop, sehr nette Kommunikation, die Schuhe sind ein Traum, lediglich die Größenordnung war für mich schwer, trotz netter Beratung und messen auf dem Vordruck, musste ich leider mehrmals hin und her senden, da jedes Modell irgendwie anders ausfällt. Am Ende hat alles gepasst, ich habe zwei paar Wildlinge gekauft und liebe sie. “I've tried many brands of barefoot shoes as I have a pronounced bunion and am working hard on this! The only barefoot brand that works for me is Wildling. This is for 3 reasons. The first is that they are the only brand that really honour the width of a foot with a bunion and give room for the toes to fully spread. This for me is key and I absolutely lived in the Feather sandals last summer when I discovered them. They completely prevented any pain from walking and strengthened my feet as well as looking so gorgeous. I hope they are always available, I cannot now imagine summer without them. The second reason is the weight. All Wildling shoes I have ordered so far feel practically weightless which I love and I forget I'm wearing anything on my feet at all, they feel so free! The third reason is materials. I am passionate about natural fibres and particularly love the paper shoes and the way that felt and wool are used in the winter designs. I am so grateful to the founders and designers and makers at Wildling for giving my feet the relief I need to move freely again.”

“I have to conclude that wonderful people work at Wildling Shoes. And therefore, theirs must be a fantastic company. Every product (that I've held in my hands and feet so far), before any other thing, tells precisely this story. Then, besides the products, their institutional communication also tells - inevitably and adequately - the same story. [What follows is not for any publishing] What is said above remains the review's most important aspect. So far so good. But... I'd like to have more plainness on the shoe size's definition and communication. (Yes, I am the one insisting on the Facebook Group Community and Reddit... But, on Reddit and publicly, I will always defend Wildling Shoes!). You must know better than me what makes a customer hesitate and worry. Why don't offer a set of plain, objective information? It may be simpler to give an insight into the shoe's inner dimensions and let everyone choose on its own extra free space ahead to the toes, socks' thickness, shoe's comfort with respect to use context, etc. Is it Impossible to provide the shoe's exact inner dimensions? Then the insole's length and width, and other little advice, if any, will be an optimal starting point. Don't shoe lasts and handcraft techniques allow you to know exactly the final shoe's dimensions? Let the customers know the error margin too (It will be a very few mm only). A table of customers' preferences about extra free spaces VS use scenarios may be collected and shown too, as a suggestion for the less aware customers. (For example, for winter hiking shoes, with thick socks and 4mm extra insole, the customers prefer to have "not less than" 18mm of extra space to add to their foot length, and so on.) The whole guideline will just be then: 1. measure your feet (up to mm accuracy), 2. choose extra space (from a safety minimum to a maximum corresponding to a variety of scenarios depending on the season, socks, use context, personal taste, etc.) 3. select your preferred size in mm, lengthwise and widthwise (if a size exists; for a very wide foot, for example, it may not exist) No "usual sizes" nor "conventional shoes" should be mentioned. They are enormously messy concepts! (I won't fill this kind of data in this form.) After just a few months of wearing barefoot shoes only, my old shoes don't fit any more. I do not have a "usual size" any more! Two scenarios for a hint about best practice. [A] Within Wildling Shoes I made four orders, each one of them containing just one model of shoes, even if I knew from the beginning which models I was going to purchase. Why did I do it? Because all shoe sizing guidelines were very unclear and I had to verify, one model at a time, if my hypotheses on chosen size were correct. [B] Within Freet Barefoot I made the very first order buying two models at once! Please, have a look at the "Sizing & Fitting" tab on the page https://freetbarefoot.com/eu/product/freet-ibex/ There are no well-defined shoe inner dimensions but the insole's dimensions are clear and objective information. The error margin is mentioned lengthwise and widthwise, within a few mm. The communication is crystal clear and the customer can make a decision on its own responsibility.”

Dear Salvatore, thank you so much for your kind and detailed feedback on your experience with Wildling shoes. We so appreciate the community's perspective and wishes and are constantly working with them all throughout the Wildling Shoes team as one of the most precious ressources there are. The Wildling Shoes Sizefinder is designed with the intention of making the process of finding a well fitting pair of Wildling shoes as easy as possible. And, of course, it should help to allow the freedom of movement needed to feel comfortable. How feeling comfortable and free looks like, indeed, is an individual matter and means more space for some and less for others. Therefore, the sizefinder's recommendation remains to be just that, a recommendation that might or might not be what indiviually feels like the perfectly fitting shoe. So far, we've decided against providing the inner lenght and width of Wildling shoes. The reason for that is the extreme flexiblity of the used materials making measuring finished shoes very imprecise. We've tested measuring them with different methods and since the results were so varying, it turned out to be unreliable. There are, as you assumed correctly, standard lenghts of the insoles and lasts which we could provide. They don't always equal the eventual lenght of a shoe though, since the different materials do influence the fit, even when lasts and soles are the same. You're not alone with your wish of knowing the approximate insole length of Wildling shoes to apply your own individually preferred method of sizing. So we're more than happy to re-evaluate the options with the team here, considering all the factors playing into this.
