I use this lens for in the field macro photography of insects, spiders, orchids and reptiles. It has excellent optical qualities and performs at least as well as rivals costing twice the price, the 90mm for mirrorless cameras such as my Nion Z7 mk1 produces a smoother bokeh than the 100mm which I have used for several years with my Nikon d850 body. The lack of any automatic controls on the lens is a plus, rather than a minus, in my view, allowing freedom and creativity, especially in macro work. The 2X magnification is another real bonus, so that small creatures down to 3-4mm can comfortably occupy the frame without substantial cropping. Paired with a camera that has a large enough sensor you can go even smaller and crop the image without fear of losing resolution. An outstanding lens, and I'm not a stooge for Venus Optics : ) The image shows a jumping spider with approx length of 5mm, head width 2mm max.
