Compared to the Adafruit HUZZAH 8266, I feel you need to know what you're doing. With an FTDI cable, there is still a trick to upload a script. The HUZZAH 8266 gives visual feedback with a dim red LED light, indicating its ready to upload. The ESP32 doesn't and if not in upload mode, the upload script would fail. So if you know the finger pressing steps, 10/10, else you might want to try with a HUZZAH 8266 first.
