After my initial investment of a ADS-B USB Dongle (R820T2) + Small Indoor Antenna from Jetvision to monitor aircraft on FlightRadar24, I was pleased enough with the performance. I already had an externally mounted antenna which I was able to use. I ordered up an MCX-BNC adapter, connected it up and there was a big improvement overall in Positions and Hits. Then I looked into both the RTL-SDR and FlightAware Pro Plus SDR, they both have their advantages, so I decided on the FlightAware Pro Plus. To install I simply stopped the FlightRadar24 feeder software, removed the Jetvision dongle and plugged in the FlightAware Pro Plus SDR. Ran the 'lsusb' command on the Raspberry Pi to make sure I could see it ok and restarted the FlightAware Pro Plus. Well the difference was phonomonal. Immediately I started picking up aircraft beyond >200nm, which never happened on the Jetvision dongle. I think it is all to do with the Amplifier and Filter that are built in on FlightAware Pro Plus. I was so impressed I also purchased their "1090MHz ADS-B N-Type Antenna 26" Which I hope to install in the near future. The image below shows the Monday to Friday traffic recordings in the hight 700s to low 800s. On Thursday evening at about 17:30 or so I plugged in the FlightAware Pro Plus ADS-B SDR and bang the traffic spiked, and remained consistently higher. I'm delighted with my purchase the difference it has made. Regards, Niall
