I got the camjam edukit3 for my nephew and made a framework ready for him to assemble at Christmas.
It has good sturdy wheels and motors and runs for ages on the 4AA battery pack. We used it with a pi zeroW running headless over ssh. We initially had it set up through the house wifi but later configured it as a wifi hotspot so he could use it away from home.
The programs on the camjam website were easy to follow and considering this was his forst foray into python after having only used scratch previously, he took t it ok. Spelling mistakes in his typing being the biggest culprit for failures.
The line follower was the most fun and the avoidance sensor was good too.
Building it was as much fun as programming it.
