I’ve enjoyed getting to grips with this amazing new module. WaveShare have packed it with sensors allowing the user to find out so much about their local environment. Most of the sensors are easy to use as they have provided excellent drivers. Readings for temperature, pressure, humidity, UV, IR and visible light are simple to collect and understand. I’m not sure quite what the readings from the air quality sensor (ethanol equivalent) mean and am still working out the magnetometer and gyroscope values. The accelerometer readings are useful for ‘shake input’ and working out the orientation of the board in 3D space. One small problem I encountered with downloading the example programs, which have the essential drivers imbedded in them, was that they are in a single, large zipped file of type .7z which is difficult to unpack without the commercial program. You can get a free trial, mine had run out, but with a bit of effort I managed to unpack without having to buy the program. If you would like easier access to the drivers, some more examples, help and access to a ‘Tilt Game’ using the board, please look at my ‘Workout’ tutorial for the board, which you can find here: https://www.instructables.com/Pi-Pico-Environmental-Sensing-Module I’ve had a great fun using this board and still have several future projects in mind making use of these sensors. At first sight it may appear expensive but it is really great value buying all the sensors in one neat, compact package and it still only uses two GPIO pins, GP20 and GP21, for I2C connection.
