I have been looking for a tote bag for occasions where backpacks are a hassle, including as a dad bag. I initially purchased the standard WPT tote and Aer Gym Tote 2 but returned them as I found this to trump both of them. The standard WPT tote had one flaw I couldn't deal with - the tote straps were comfortable but only one would stay on my shoulder unless I buckle the both them together. However, this made accessing the tote inefficient. I decided to return both initial totes and took the plunge to try the 'shoulder' version. With very little Black Ember tote reviews out there, I was pleasantly surprised by the shoulder strap. It is incredible for heavy loads versus the standard tote straps. For example, carrying two iPads, two filled water bottles, baby wipes etc. was very comfortable. I shortened the straps to make it carry like a tote. I was looking for a tote with external water bottle pockets but the zip accesses on both sides were a very good compromise, especially in keeping all the things inside during inclement weather. Zips are buttery smooth. Note, the laptop slot was not made for 16” MBPs but you can still fit it in without the magnetic snaps closing together. Material-wise, the EmberTex feels nice to touch, reminds me of 840D. Looks-wise, I prefer the Aer Gym Tote 2 urban aesthetics but this was more functional and provides a more professional aesthetic which I am now considering using as my office tote whenever I feel like mixing it up with my backpack. The handle straps can be adjusted but adjusting them could be a little annoying. But I do wish that Black Ember sold the 'tote bag' straps separately, so you could change it up. If you plan to carry heavy, this tote will be perfect with the shoulder straps.
