“My 4 year old has really enjoyed this reading system. It is short and sweet and does not involve a lot of time which is good for her short attention span and my sanity :) But she has a learned A LOT in a short amount of time -- she is reading books 1-4 in a 3 week span. Very effective curriculum.”
“I babysit and is teaching a 4 year old with this program. He love the song. He has me play them over and over. He loves the token piece you give after the lesson is over. He sing with the songs and make them dance along.”
“I'm glad I bought this. I love how simple it is. I didn't have to read a long instructors manual to understand how to use the program (only 2 pages). Each lesson is the same so therefore my kids and I know what to expect when we pull out the materials. Prep time takes minutes. I like (and bought it because of) the focus on lowercase letters and that it doesn't require tracing letters or handwriting instruction, and it was simple/well-priced compared to other curriculums. I also thought this didn't seem tedious for kids compared to other, more complicated curriculums. I think the space for copying the letters should be changed. I don't think the lines are necessary. I observe that my kids trying to form letters on lines adds more stress than just trying to form a letter at all. Something like a page with open space for making each letter would help a child feel successful. My daughter is 4 and new to lowercase. She gets frustrated and bails in the lesson when it gets to the part for writing letters. I tried to help by telling her to make them bigger and use all the lined space, but clearly, from the example on the page she sees how it's supposed to be done, within the lines, and realizes she is not doing it "right." We will have to do something else (skip it or provide another space to write, or write in sand). Otherwise my children like the workbooks. My 4yo likes the songs. Both my children like the silly stories and the cardboard characters to keep. I like the letter cards for making and sounding out new words. My older child,5, was a beginner reader (some cvc words), knew letter sounds, and recognized all u/l letters. The younger knew most letter sounds and most lowercase, all upper. They are both interested in learning to read and both are now reading. The motor teaching technique is genius. They both use this to sound out words. My older is reading more easily than before and even can sound out longer words.”
“I have loved the program so far (with minor nit picky things I think could be better) and the idea of the program. We aren’t completely done so I believe I can leave a better review at the end. My son loves gaining the little letter characters as we go along. My first nit picky thing that I wish were different is that I wish all, or as many as possible, of the little reward cards that kids gain as they learn the letters were animals. This sounds silly, but English is a second language for my son and today we reached the letter g. He doesn’t know the word ghost, and goat or goose may have been easier. Now, I”m not saying its not good for him to learn new vocabulary, but those cards have been extremely beneficial for him to remember the sounds of letters, but g has been a bit of a challenge because he sees the picture of the ghost, but can’t come up with the word to help him remember the sound it makes. Side note, my son is only 4. Once again, I love the idea of the whole program with few things I would simplify. Also the songs that go with the letters are cute, but not easy enough to get stuck in your head. We love the alphabet song though, although I’m not sure about the other letters like C, G, Y that also have more than ones sound. I wish those were in there too.”
“My son loves earning a new character and singing along with the songs. He has earned two books and is so proud of himself that he can read them by himself.”
