“Continental Gatorskins have been our go-to all-round training and racing tyre. Practically bulletproof…until recently. Approx 2-year-old tyre bubbling on the trainer. And a practically new tyre with a vertical slice to the sidewall. Hmmm. But we’re still using them! Generally excellent, and super long lasting.”
“This has been the tried and true formula for commuting or even training day every day non race tires.
I mean, you could also race on them I suppose? I just mainly use cotton tires with latex tubes. These don’t feel as light and supple as that; but they’re also not as puncture prone either!
I got these to replace the wet weather commuter bike’s tires. I hadn’t changed the tires on that thing for years!
I don’t expect them to wear out any time soon.
I was surprised that they hadn’t revised a new gator skin tire or formula. Like how the GP4000s were superceded by the GP5000s. I guess the gator skin formula just “works”.
No idea if they still have, or ever used the chilli compound? That was probably a yesteryear tech? Either way, I’m not feeling any difference without it.
I’ve only tried these new sets for about a month, but they still feel grippy, and haven’t shown any bald spots or patches. Fingers crossed they live up to their name once the rains come!”
“Bulletproof. Have not had a puncture. Only issue was a double tube blowout due to road rubbish impact at high speed. Tyres themselves did not damage. Can’t recommend more highly. I race and train on them.”
