“(fyi, Aina’s husband is leaving this review)
I’m not sure I would ever buy a couch that I could not sit on first - but thankfully - there’s a Burrow store right next to The Sycamore Kitchen (a place we like to eat) on La Brea in Los Angeles. Actually, seeing the store is how we even knew about Burrow.
The first time I went in the store, I really liked their furniture, and I really loved the Union Sofa. Because it’s modular, you can easily order/build-it to your specific configuration. I’m assuming the modularity must help keep the price down as well, but I’m sure it’s also part of the reason you can get your couch within 10 days, instead of 6 months. We got the 5-seat sofa (L-shaped sectional) in the Ivory Chenille. It was more difficult and took a lot more time to assemble than I had anticipated. That’s probably due, in part, because it would much easier to do with another person, and I was doing it by myself. But also because lining a few of the elements up so they precisely fit in place together, took a bit of impromptu engineering. That said, Burrow has done an amazing job in bringing clarity to furniture assembly: the shipping boxes that arrive are very clearly labeled, with the interior boxes inside the shipping boxes (leg boxes for example) are also individually and specifically labeled as well. That makes for easy strategic box opening - which is important - because it’s a lot of pretty large boxes to unpack, and depending on your space, you can easily run out of room opening and unpacking them all at once.
But the real master stroke here are the Assembly Instructions. They are perfect. Beautifully laid out in an actual booklet, written in an easy-to-follow, conversational prose, and the graphics are clear and specific. Finally, it seems, there’s one company on planet Earth that understands how to create assembly instructions that don’t make you want to kill yourself.
Another important and super thoughtful touch, was that Burrow included a ratcheting hex driver, making a enormous difference in ease-of-assembly, and tightening everything down properly. Normally, you get a tiny, hard-to-hold, cheaply-made “S” hex key, that’s impossible to get leverage on. The Burrow ratcheting hex driver is so nice, I added it to my tool set.
Now that we’ve been living with the couch for 2 weeks, I have to say, we love it. It exceeded our high expectations.
We love that the Ivory Chenille is so soft , but has a really nice texture. We love that it’s a performance material (as we have 3 nut-job Chihuahuas), and we love that the cushions are CertiPUR-US® certified and the materials are PFAS-free. That’s important for us and was a factor in deciding to buy from Burrow.
The couch looks great. The dark walnut, square legs are a great contrast with the Ivory Chenille, and we love the two Honey Bouclé Pillows we got as well (it’s a deep-seated couch, so the pillows become important depending on how you’re sitting - we’re actually ordering a third one).
Lastly, the customer service at Burrow is amazing. Specifically, I mean Lauren at the LA store. I was assembling our couch on a late Friday afternoon when at 5 pm, I realized I was missing 6 long screws that were going to prevent me from putting this couch together before the weekend - and our living room was already in shambles. I called Burrow on La Brea and Lauren picks up, who incidentally, took my in-person order. at the store, about 10 days earlier. I told Lauren I was missing 6 long screws, and she put me on hold, running to the back to check if they had any. They did! To confirm, we each took a photo of the long screw we had in our possession next to a tape measure. It seemed like a match, so I told Lauren I would race down to the store, but due to it being rush-hour on a Friday, I wasn’t sure I would make it before 6 pm, which is when they close. Lauren told me, “No worries, if you don’t get here by 6 pm, I’ll wait of you”. What?? Amazing.
I did end up getting there by 6 pm, and it turns out that her set of long screws and mine were slightly different lengths, so she took the one I had, went into the back and returned with 6 new ones so I could get our new couch assembled before the weekend, and before my mother arrived the following Monday for Thanksgiving week.
Thank you Burrow. And thank you Lauren!!”
