“I was dragged to Ashland Leather “for a tour” when I really wanted to be going to lunch. I was not in the mood, to put it lightly. Twenty minutes, promise!
We ended up being there an hour. We got to meet the crew, see the shop, and learn about their products and vision. What an incredible visit! I quickly forgot I was hungry and ended up having a great time.
I left with a one of these wallets (and a mystery box, One Note holder, and some wedding gifts). I don’t like sitting on my wallet. Haven’t for years. I put my wallet in my truck console or in a backpack, even for a one-mile trip for groceries. When we left Ashland Leather (did I mention that I went from hangry to having a great time?), I moved my wallet contents to this new wallet. Without much hope, I put it in my back pocket to “test drive” it. Well, we got to talking about vital world matters like cow versus horse leathers, colors we wish we had, etc., and I forgot I had my wallet in my back pocket. Through three stops and a drive to just north of Milwaukee, I had that thing in my pocket for 6.5 hours and checked multiple times because I thought it had fallen out.
It really does feel as unobtrusive as advertised.
If you are asking yourself why you should pay this much for a wallet, the answer is simply, “because you deserve this wallet.” Really, you owe this one to yourself. It is fantastic!

If I could change things
On the inner layer I think marble doesn’t make as much sense as the wax comes off and rub against each other and formed some white patch here and there.
I would rather pay 100 more and get hand stitched. But they always sold out.”
“I’m not one to purchase a product, open the package, and immediately make a review. I like to use a product and give my long-term impressions. I bought a Fat Herbie wallet about two years ago and I am completely satisfied.
I bought an “irregular” model, the Fat Herbie, Color 8 Shell Cordovan, which was perhaps a $100 discount or so compared to a mint model. It had some irregularity, but after almost two years, I have no recollection of the irregularity, and the everyday wear and tear has made that irregularity irrelevant.
The main feature I like is the large pocket for cash and other papers. I often have a lot of currency, and there is a lot of space for them. Also, the large pocket is very accommodating when I have some receipt or card that I want to store quickly.
I thought the wallet would be thin for its size, and I suppose it is, especially if I didn’t carry as much paper stuff in the large pocket. It can become quite thick but not thicker than a smaller wallet with the same number of credit cards. However, because of the large area of the Fat Herbie, it seems bigger.
The four slots for credit cards were a little stiff when I first got this wallet, and three cards were the max I could put in each slot. With time, the leather has stretched a small amount and I can now fit four cards per slot, though it’s tight.
The leather quality is excellent. There are minor scratches and bumps caused by two years of daily usage, but they’re barely noticeable.
I’m not a wallet person in the sense that I use different styles of wallets for different occasions. I’ll buy a wallet and use it until it falls apart. Compared to other quality wallets I’ve had (e.g., Coach), I fully expect this wallet to last me at least ten years, and probably many years beyond that.
Absolutely no buyer’s regret for my Fat Herbie.
