I have already been three times to Australia and done different tours. The latest trip was when I experienced the worst and the best tour ever. The one I am reviewing now is unfortunately the worst one I have ever done: I've travelled all the way to Darwin mostly exclusively to visit the Kakadu National park and joined for the purpose a 3-day Kakadu tour organized by Territory Expeditions I have to express my disappointment regarding the same. The reasons are the following: Communication before the departure was really difficult. For instance, the day before the departure (a Tuesday - working day), I wrote an email and even a text message as I needed further clarifications about the pick-up time and the required documents to be brought, but I received no answer. On the following day, the guide (Mel) "welcomed" us saying that we would not have had access to our bags for the entire day and, then, we had to arrange what we needed just on the street and in a rush. I think it could be more simple to precise it before! Once on the bus we figured out that the majority of the group (9 people out of 16) were part of two families travelling together. They were really good and pleasant people. However, they made the group very inconsistent. It is however stated on their web site that no person under 18 are accepted on your regular tours (From their FAQS: We don’t take children under the age of 18 on our regular departures, however we can accommodate all ages with a private Tour). If I knew in advance, I would have immediately booked with another backpacker tour company! The tour programme was partially not followed: the lunch on the first day was not along the river but in the airport parking lot; the first night we had no BBQ as planned and so on. We understand that it is possible that, due to unforseen circumstances, it could happen. However we should be informed. The guide (Mel) was simply the worst thing! She did not give enough information about what we were seeing; when hiking she was not caring about the group even when some people were struggling; when reached the gorges she usually went away in her bikini while the guides of the competitor tour, still in uniform, were supervising their groups on the same spots. Generally speaking, her behaviour was not engaging and often even rude. To make a few practical examples: on the hike to Jim Jim falls (pretty tough one) Mel was just going at her own pace without ever looking behind if people were missing or struggling. Me and my gf managed to keep her pace, but many people reached us at the falls after long. Once there, she changed to her bikini and disappeared for about 20 minutes. As we would have liked to have some information regarding that amazing place, we had to ask the guide from the competition... When Mel was driving we were not feeling safe at all and, instead of putting on some music from the bus speakers to entertain people during the very long drives (I would not even expect her telling stories or facts, as other tour guides do and, in fact, she did not), she just managed to use her own crackly portable speaker to listen to her music by herself. However, what I disliked the most, was what happened at Gunlom falls: we were at the upper falls and we were struggling going over some sharp and very slippery rocks. Mel, dressed in her bikini, instead of helping us was like: "guys, please try to hurry up! Some people need to make a photo!"..... no comment really...... Food on the tour was scarce and hygienic conditions poor (I will never forget the way how we had to clean the dishes..). Lunch was just bread with some kind of ham put in a plastic freezer bag (not sealed) and the second day she even forgot to take it out. A man on our tour asked if she could open a can of tuna she found in the box. She was like: "the tuna no!", in a rude way. People pay $ 630 for this tour and cannot even get a can of tuna... We waited to finish another tour on the west coast (from Perth to Exmouth) before writing this review. This last tour and the several ones previously undertook in other parts of Australia (Fraser Island, Ayers Rock, Great Ocean Road, Daintree Rainforest etc.) confirmed how the quality of your tour, especially given the very high price, was really insufficient. After the tour, I wrote a clarification email to the tour company and, of course, after almost 2 weeks, I have received no answer... If you travel all the way to Darwin (it is a long way from everywhere) please make sure to choose another tour company. The places are amazing and they deserve to be visited! If you really feel like trying Territory Expedition, please ask not to have Mel as a tour guide or she will ruin your vacation!
