Honestly, the carvings are smaller than I imagined, but being on the sailboat made it worth it. Nice to just sit back and take in the lake views.

Such a chill way to spend the afternoon. Sailing out on the lake with a beer in hand and then seeing the carvings up close was way cooler than I expected.

I booked this as a surprise for my wife and it turned out to be one of our favorite days in Taupo. The crew were easygoing, the boat wasn’t overcrowded, and the pace was perfect. We even got to help with the sails a little, which was fun.

The sail itself was so relaxing. Just sitting back with the breeze and watching the lake open up in front of us was worth it. The carvings were even more detailed than I expected.

Cool mix of culture and chill time. Being Māori myself, I was curious how the carvings would be presented and honestly they handled it well, respectful, informative, not overdone. Sailing was smooth and quiet. Great views the whole time. Definitely recommend if you want something slow-paced with a bit of meaning.

Did this with my husband as part of our road trip and it was the perfect way to slow down for a few hours. We even saw a rainbow over the lake on the way back which felt like a movie. 10/10 day.

Honestly didn’t expect much and it ended up being one of my favorite things in Taupō. The lake is massive and just being out on the water felt so calm. Carvings were cool but the sailing itself was the highlight.

Wasn’t sure about an afternoon sail until I tried the 2pm cruise. Warm ponchos, hot drinks included, felt cozy on cooler days. Crew shared depth on the carvings and the lake’s volcanic history. On the return, I even helped hoist sails.
