A tour guide can very easily make or break any tour. This particular trip would have been a lot of fun but unfortunately, our guide Simon has set the tone for the day. Within 15 minutes of our visit, when everyone had picked up Simon, he continued to introduce us to the day and said that he was a cultural and economic expert, which would have been fine if you had not decided to hold the conversation. He not only taught us in the morning but also had the courage to tell us all how to brush our teeth on something. This was always in the "soapbox" in the van all day for 12 hours. During the lunch break, we sat down with some women who were not paying attention to this, felt like captives in a van forced to listen to how to brush their teeth and other moral advice and wished they could get their money back. We all agreed that we were very disappointed that we had not heard much about the places along the way. We also thought about trying to find another way to ride home for lunch hour but the reception was limited and we were good "stuck all day." We have traveled to more than 120 countries that have taken hundreds of trips as we have a travel company and love to hear things before we sell them to our clients to ensure they have an enjoyable experience. We have never had this kind of situation before when the driver spoke harshly about other cultures, politics, and religions (three things you don’t mention) and used this trip as his gift box to push his political plan to everyone else. If he wants to have some kind of conversation, I suggest he does it in his own time and we and others have not paid a good amount of money to hear his views. If a company sees fit to have these types of conversations on the go, they need to advertise so that people can decide if they want to spend their money that way. Our agency believes in protecting the environment and works with suppliers to ensure that environmental measures are taken we do not need to be educated about them and no one else if they pay for a trip that would not be a lesson. The trip itself was a good one. Mossman Gorge was beautiful but very little swimming time advertised. The boat on the Daintree River was tiring and had very few wildlife. Cape Tribulation would have been better and a much shorter time there as our guide could have given only 25 minutes at the station which was not enough time to take a picture and use the toilet for all the other tourist companies there. When booking this trip you may want to be aware of the company you are booking with and who the guide is if you do not want to pay for tuition while on vacation. You may also want to book a private trip with another company to give yourself time to enjoy each place.
