I was backpacking solo and wasn’t sure if this would feel awkward, but it turned out perfect. Met a few others on board and we all ended up hanging out on the deck together. Milford Sound is spectacular by day, but overnight you get a side of it most people don’t see.

Honestly one of the best things I’ve done in New Zealand.

Waking up in the middle of Milford Sound surrounded by mountains and waterfalls was unreal. The boat was cozy, food was great, and the night sky out on deck was the clearest I’ve ever seen.

Night on the water, massive waterfalls pouring down sheer cliffs felt cinematic. Cabin was small but had everything I needed, and I even joined the kayak paddle at dawn. A real reset from city life!

This was my first time on a cruise like this and I loved how raw it felt. Dinner was buffet-style actually tasted good (complete with dessert). Weather was moody and rained a lot, but that only made the waterfalls more intense. Staff warned us Rain = better views... and that's true story.

Awesome experience overall. The sunset and sunrise views were beyond beautiful. Worth doing once for the full Fiordland immersion.
