“This thing is nice, very sturdy and pretty easy to telescope up and down with a little help from another person.. Overall I would buy again for sure!”
“I adopted my Purple Martin house from my father-in-law. This was a project we worked on together during COVID. Understand my FIL...he was great at jury rigging everything. His (Our) first attempt was to use a 5/8" thin wall pipe, eighteen feet tall. Poor birds got seasick in a breeze because the house would sway back and forth.
When he passed, I moved the Marin House to our home, and I was going to do it right. I ordered the 12Ft Heavy Duty Pole and instead of burying it in cement, instead I used a half a whiskey barrel a couple of 2 x4's for alignment and buried the base in stone. I did this in case I ever wanted to move it.
I have two problems. First, the pole is trying to rotate because it's not cemented in. It doesn't rotate much, and I easily fix it once a month; that's not a problem.
Number two was the alignment of the pole. Where the sections go together, and you screw in the thumbscrew, it pushes the pole roughly 3/16" - 1/4" in the opposite direction. This caused the lower section to be slightly out of alignment. I fixed this by buying a washer and backed the thumb screw off, carefully slid the washer in opposite of the thumbscrew and re-tightened it. It’s perfectly aligned.
I highly recommend the product and Birds Choice.”
“I had my telescoping pole installed last week and it seems to be exactly what we wanted. So far it looks great. Here's hopeing we attract some Purple Martins!”
“Goes up easy and works fine. The design makes it difficult for one person to raise or lower the house enough to maintain it while standing on the ground. You have to have help, climb a ladder or take the sections apart.”
