I am so thankful that I found this deal when I did! I actually told everyone in my homeschooling group about it. I have been burned before so I worried it was too good to be true. I was very relieved when I got our scope and it more than lived up to my hopes. I had purchased another scope that was a major letdown. I couldn't teach my kids a love for microscopy on a scope that even their former-microbiologist mom couldn't focus. I conceded that, with our budget, it was unlikely to ever get a scope with 100x objectives (oil immersion). However, I was not willing to accept that blurry optics or a tiny, plastic scope were what we should be stuck with. I tried one last time and found a great deal here. For the cost of many other scopes (new and subpar or vintage with the tilt body and no illumination source), I got a brand new scope with a 100x objective and clear lenses! The scope arrived carefully packaged and quickly. The ordering process was easy. It is a good size for teaching and has exactly what I required for the task: - Tilted viewing area vs. tilted body (so you can look at things like pond water without it sloshing about or the viewer looming over the instrument) - 1000x magnification derived from a 100x objective lens. So many scopes on the market try to confuse people by claiming 1000x or more magnification. But what they fail to say is that it is achieved by a secondary 15x ocular lens. Due to the nature of light refraction, you cannot clearly resolve an image in a microscope this way. You can magnify it...but it's a blur. - Crystal clear lenses that blew my mind for this price range. No fuzzy edges on specimens and a nice pointer to direct the kids to what they need to observe. I had heard a lot of angry stories about the quality of lenses in this price range from other manufacturers. I was pleasantly surprised to find that no lenses required replacement for defects, scratches, or inability to focus. (Though I have admittedly not tried 100x/oil yet) - Nice, bright light source - Cover to keep it dust free included - A course and fine adjustment knob. You would be amazed how many scopes don't have a fine adjustment. This is probably because they lack higher powered objectives. This might be my one complaint, however... I was always taught that after you get your image in focus on the low power, you never touch the course adjustment knob again to avoid cracking the slide, lens, or stage window. The fine adjustment knob on this one does not provide enough range to compensate for differences between lenses. It seems to "max out" before you get entirely back into focus when moving up through the lens progression. So, we will just be really careful with the course focus and only use the fine for the highest power.
